People so butt-hurt over the confederate flag flown @ SC capitol ???

Like why? I could see if a northern state was flying it...

It's a symbol of southern HERITAGE, not hate. Maybe to some retarded white trash fuckers. But it is flying high at the SC capital building, not because of racism, but to remember those that laid down their lives to stand for what they believed, for states rights. NOT only because of slavery.

There were tons of FREE slaves that fought for the south during the civil war, with many African Americans in the Sons of the Confederacy. Look it up if you want.


You're all fucking stupid if you think the flag is a symbol of racism just because the KKK uses it, obviously it's fucking dumb for anyone in the north to fly it. That's a no-brainer.

The confederacy went to war against the united States of America. Therefore, the confederacy is an ENEMY state. Therefore south Carolina is flying an ENEMY flag.

Lol I'm not in high school, but anything to get that age condescending high ground right? It's stupid as fuck for anyone in the teens/ early twenties to compare money, as you still live with your parents and have zero fiscal responsibility. But if we're going to compare money, I'm earning 20 an hour doing construction in Toronto so that means I'm better than you.

I followed that it's valid to care about human rights violations that don't directly affect you. I agree. This has nothing to do with human rights, though. It's literally only an issue of how a state decorates its capitol building. If you don't live in South Carolina, your opinion on how they decorate has no weight. You're no better than the crotchety old poeple in your local homeowner's association who throw a tantrum because the O'Neils haven't mowed their lawn in three weeks.

this was used in the 1800's.... same thing, just trimmed up..

Even if you want to make this argument about how South Carolina chooses to decorate its capitol building this "decoration". That flag, like all flags, is a symbol and as such it symbolizes:
1. the treasonous actions of the Confederacy against the Union
2. its singular communication of going to war (since it was only recognized as a battle flag)
3. American's bloodiest war fought to defend their blatantly racist & oppressive way of life in which they killed American lives to defend

Treason is not a state right, and people can't hide behind "state's rights" when that is obviously a component of that flag's symbolism. People can say whatever they want to about state's rights and make any quibble they want in their hope to keep it flying, but since that flag explicitly represents that and the other aforementioned things, it arguably violates so many "federal" American ideals that it has no place being flown by a government agency.

If this were any other symbol of treason and war fought preserve those treasonous ideals, people from the right would be screaming at the top of their lungs to burn the witch responsible.

I dunno, with the recent marriage decision I would put money on some southern states to form a union and fight the north again over gay marriage. And of course in 50 years time the south will then proclaim "it was about state rights" while everyone knows they just didn't want gay marriage.
