People so butt-hurt over the confederate flag flown @ SC capitol ???

Like why? I could see if a northern state was flying it...

It's a symbol of southern HERITAGE, not hate. Maybe to some retarded white trash fuckers. But it is flying high at the SC capital building, not because of racism, but to remember those that laid down their lives to stand for what they believed, for states rights. NOT only because of slavery.

There were tons of FREE slaves that fought for the south during the civil war, with many African Americans in the Sons of the Confederacy. Look it up if you want.


You're all fucking stupid if you think the flag is a symbol of racism just because the KKK uses it, obviously it's fucking dumb for anyone in the north to fly it. That's a no-brainer.

Since you refused to answer my question in the charlston thread, then created this one. What heritage does the flag represent? The civil war was essentially about slavery. Nothing else and that's what the flag represents to many people.

Yeah pretty much every country had slaves. But the north gave their slaves freedom whilst the south proclaimed that having slavery was a right. This isn't the early 20th century where people think the war was over agriculture vs industry or a states right over tyranny of big government. If it was really about those issues then the war would of started during nullification crisis in the 1830's when Andrew Jackson said that South Carolina couldn't declare a federal tariff null in their state.

OMG the aussie knows stuff about the civil war!!! OMG no way. You're wrong Frenchy. The war was about slavery, the flag represents slavery and the injustices of the south and all the bullshit the south had.

The confederate flag originally NOT a symbol of hate. However after the civil war it's image was distorted, and it now stands as a symbol of hate for many. Similar to how the Nazis distorted the image of the swastika.

Fly a confederate flag if you want to for whatever reason. If you believe in the "heritage not hate" standpoint, then that's your belief. Just don't be surprised if someone who disagrees takes offense to it.

There were a lot of these kids in my high school(upstate NY). I was friends with them and not one of them was legitimately racist. Slavery is terrible but there was much more that the south stood for. Those values are what people believe the confederate flag stand for, not slavery.

Hell, we had a couple african americans in my school who flew confederate flags from their trucks... To be honest people don't fly the flag because they support slavery/racism and if you think otherwise you are equally as ignorant.

You don't know anything about the South you're from Connecticut. I know you're going to tell me you visited there for a week once, and want to live there so you know all about southern pride. At the end of the day people in the KKK along with other racist organizations support the flag and what it stands for, the whole purpose of the Civil War was to keep black people enslaved. The tiny bit of history and heritage the flag holds does not outweigh the horrible past, that can't hide behind a flag.

You are really on the wrong side of this. That's like you support the swastika and the states rights to choose to have it as a flag.

Yeah I fee you. I don't get offended by it and have no reason to be offended by it so I don't. I can see why others would which is why even if I did believe in those values I would never fly one. People are gonna do what they wanna do though and it's probably a good idea to know where they are coming from instead of accusing them of being racists. 99% of these people are not trying to offend anyone, they're just supporting their beliefs.
