Mr.BishopPHYSIO!
A good sports physiotherapist is a magician.
This.
I cant vouch enough for a good physio, also go in sooner rather than later.
In january i hit my head really hard and had a minor concussion, dazed dizzy and seeing stars right away. The way I fell also caused my neck to snap back and my head to hit the ice. Next day I went into the doc who basically said you have a minor concussion sleep it off, and im sure I did have a concussion, but only a minor one. Never thought to mention the neck. 2 months later in march after another hard day skiing with lots of hard falling but no head impact, "concussion" symptoms came back. Deffered my exams and went home to go on total bedrest at the advice of my doctor. Got in to see a sports medicine specialist when I was at home, Turns out I have significant trauma in the soft tissues of the neck and down through the shoulders. but no one diagnosed the neck trauma until april and I ignored my neck symptoms because after the first few days of stiff neck they went away for the most part, so i thought anyways. Turns out soft tissue damage in the neck causes concussion like symptoms especially headaches and the feeling "off" and my neck really wasnt that sore so for months I thought my headaches and off feeling was post concussion syndrome.
anyways get to april leaving this neck trauma untreated and every basically every muscle above my shoulder blade is somehow messed up. Been in physio for almost two months and still can put pressure on certain parts of my neck/shoulder and have instant headache and "concussion like symptoms"
tldr: go to physio, if theres an underlying problem besides sore muscles it could get much worse going totally un treated.
Also people dealing with chronic post concussion syndrome i highly recommend getting your neck checked out because apparently its very common for this type of neck injury to be misdiagnosed as PCS because of almost identical symptoms . Even sidney crosby was misdiagnosed similarly for 2 years. Way my physio explained to me was hitting a golfball and wrecking the tee. Makes a lot of sense. Concussion happens, gets the focus, heals, you still have symptoms and its so far on that the neck gets forgotten about and bam you have a PCS diagnosis like i did.
