anyone else following the shit storm on reddit due to pao? she apparently recently lost a lawsuit with a company she was fired from, and since then has taken a position at reddit and has shut down many subreddits that fat shamed people even though they weren't harassing. Also now admins are banning users left and right for many things related to her. I know it has little effect on us, but still makes u wonder how corrupt newschoolers is

its the worst.
as a follower of /r/skiing on reddit, its honestly the shittier NS, theres not as much of a community and it kinda just overall sucks. no real connection there, where on here u get used to the personalities of the many different NSers and their stories and shit, reddit just sucks in that matter, everyone cares too much about their imaginary points.

I've gone on r/skiing just to look at all the comments that attempt to rip on newschoolers and anything other than racing.
S.J.WThe whole fat acceptance movement is so dumb. There's a difference between outright calling people fat, fatty, Obese fucker etc and telling fat people that there's nothing wrong with being fat. No being fat causes all types of problems and if you think being fat is fine then you're an idiot.
agreed. I'm also blown away at the fact that some people argue that being overweight should be publicized as glamorous and sexy as in the whole debate with "plus sized" models. I do think that most of the famous models are somewhat underweight at the moment, which is a problem of it's own, but to argue in favor of having fat models is just as wrong as having anorexic ones. Both extremes portray bad examples of health to kids (that's the argument they use right?)

It has nothing to do with shaming or putting people down, it's just being consciously aware of health and consequences.

yeah super models like Victoria Secret portray a really unhealthy body to young girls and that's why so many girls have body issues. So I can see how the whole push for plus side models, but don't kid yourself that plus size means healthy. But both just support an un healthy obsession for an undesirable body. Doves real beauty campaigns is something that all fashion brands should aspire to be like, they're models are fit and have real bodies, none of this size 0 bullshit you see at VC

Note: We absolutely have never advocated completely free speech on here. This is our private living room - if you're going to come in here and act like a fuckwad then you're done. I want the people to have a voice, and I want that to be very free, but there's a line and its my call to make. I take enormous amounts of community feedback to make those decisions, but this is a private spot.
In the real world free speech allows you to be as much of a dick as you so please, but that doesn't stop a black bar owner from kicking out a KKK member who is issuing racist hate speech against the patrons. You won't get arrested or hurt - but fuck you in private spaces.

/r/skiing is absolutely the average skier dude - the guy that goes out some weekends and maybe 1 ski trip a year. It is what it is, and its been hilarious to be a part of it.
We use some of reddit's mechanics for sure - but by no means are we just a subreddit of a big community site. We let the community dictate a lot of what goes on here, but we're through and through a ski-only community. Even NSG is skiers blowing off steam in other areas of their life. /r/skiing will never be Newschoolers, and nor would it want to be - it would intimidate the average skier type that isn't so religiously dedicated to it.
if you dont go on the main subreddits, there are some really cool communities and a lot of funny stuff on reddit. you just have to take some time and find the cool stuff
