What started the whole silent rock thing? I heard some one gabbed it but no one knows if they snowboarded or skied. I also heard it wa Tim windell (I think that's his first name). Can anyone give me the story?

back in the late 60s early 70s there was a semi that went over the cliff and took 3 cars with it, so out of respect for them it came about. Others say settlers or the indians used throw people off the cliffs with rocks in their mouth to keep them silent. another rumor is that it was an indian burial ground but come on how could you have a mass grave on a 35' slope of a hill.

My basis is that over the years from 50s through now many accidents and injuries around those S bends that it came about as "sshh were coming up to silent rock i need to focus on my driving" either way i thoroughly back silent rocks beliefs. I had a roommate from vegas that mocked it everyday, He got lost at skibowls outback fell in a creek drowned and wound up down by silent rock once he was found. super sad that we lost him but I couldnt help but think damn shouldnt of mocked the rock

Ive heard the bus story told that he went off the cliff then the other one was that he lied to the kids to get them to be quiet for a few miles

Idk if this is a superstition but always but I always toss on my buds/beanie/goggles/helmet before the jacket

I used to be superstitious that if I seen a snowmobile on the way to the hill it ment I was going to crash because when I was younger and had my worst crash I seen a snowmobile when I was driving up to the hill, but this year I put that superstition to rest
