I just don't understand why the media is making a big fucking deal about Caitlyn being "brave."

MinggWhat bothers me is every gay/lesbian/bi person I have ever met(never met anyone who's trans) just wants to be treated like a normal person and I'm very cool with that. But why are people praising this woman so much for coming out? Like, I just don't see what the big deal is. Cool the former Bruce is now Caitlyn. Why cause such a fuss when these people "just want to be treated like everyone else." It's contradicting in my opinion so if someone wants to explain this to me, feel free. I don't have anything against transgender people. I don't exactly understand it 100% but like why is this such a big deal?
S.J.WIt's because of the stigma associated with being trans (refer to Kratz post). And with Caitlyn being in the public eye so much it could of been much easier for her to remain a man and not deal with any of the bullshit that follows coming out. Also there's never been a celebrity of this caliber who's identified as a transgender. There's people like Laverne Cox who are famous but like lets be honest, you just google who she was.
There's also a whole lot of issues that people of trans deal with, like being bashed by transaphobic people for just wanting to be themselves. In the interview Caitlyn raised most of these issues that mainstream media ignores.
MinggI gotcha. I get the media coverage and everything because the media likes to blow these kinds of things up. It just seems like this is special treatment in a way. If trans people want to feel like just another human, why is it so brave to come out? I mean, straight people aren't given awards for saying their straight. I get that it's harder to come out as being gay lesbian bi or trans, but to be feel like everyone else, wouldn't you want to be treated like everyone else?

It's just stupid in the sense that you shouldn't need to be brave to be yourself. You should just be able to do it without needing to feel like you have to be courageous, I guess is what I'm trying to get at. People like Kratz shouldn't matter or cause someone not to be who they are. I know thats a lot easier to say than for people to actually do. I think this is just sending a message that to come out you have to brave but really, you shouldn't need to be brave. You should be able to come out without any fear of being criticized for who you are.

Like coming out as LGBTQA shouldn't be "omg they're so brave" it should be like "oh that's cool dude, wanna grab a beer?" instead you have people like Kratz who think LGBTQA are lesser because they don't fit the norm of society and so when they do come out it's seen as brave. Which at this current time, it is brave to come out as LGTBQA
