ok, at the moment grime is getting like massive in the uk, it's been around for a while but right now hype is real. wondered what NS thinks of grime and shit. Discuss.

Like it's cool it's a legit reaction to the man. A agree with you like grime is just the modern punk. Plus shutdown would be a banger in a ski edit I know it somebody make this happen.

What's the difference between grime and hip hop? A lot of this stuff in this thread reminds me of underachievers, but I've never heard of grime.

like grime is more of a uk, garagey/early dubstep vibe to it, as opposed to the more classic boom bappy style of hip-hop. I guess as trap and hip-hop starting becoming more closely linked the lines began to blur a bit.

frankly, I think it's awful. It sounds like someone is rapping over an old nintendo game soundtrack. I'm a fan of almost all types music, but this and country are not included in that.

Kanye having all the grime artists on stage at the brit awards also helped

like it was big, but then it went big then lost its kinda uniqueness. So like if you look at dizzees boy in da corner stuff then his tounge n cheek stuff you can really see the difference. Now it's back to how it shoulda always been.

Rap/ Hip Hop originated in Africa, bloomed in North America and spread everywhere else. That English Hip Hop is hilarious and embarrassing.

yeah. French rap was pretty good at one point. They had a pretty good flow and the language worked with it.

Mark my words Grime is going to blow up so hard. Roadman style is already influencing fashion in the US with there seeming to be the new trend to wear unstructured hats. Also drake and Skepta seem to be getting close.

That video makes me laugh every time I see it. It's filmed in an ex-council estate, the barbican centre. A small flat there costs more than £1million ($1.5m) now and you have this 'crew' rolling up acting thug for a video just because the place still looks a bit like an estate. That said it's an alright tune, it's just such obvious posing that I find it funny. I think grime has some great songs (and plenty of horrific ones), I agree it has that punk mentality for today's youth though I'd take the sound of punk any day.

As an aside, the first time I ever heard grime was in the 'palace' above the chicken shop in waterloo which the brand Palace is named after (Pow by lethal b when it first dropped).
