X Games Austin Discussion thread.

I like Summer X but it always feels so stale watching it, like nobody else shares the hype or cares about the insane action that takes place. Don't lemme down NS, plz get hyped.

I'll watch it but I hate a lot about xgames at this point. I mean there were always noobs coming out in full force to watch even since the first year but it still had a core vibe or at least seemed like it. Now it's all about the money. If an event isn't bringing enough money can it and replace it with another shitty moto event.

Imb4 bmx dirt get's canceled again and replaced by juggling pins while riding motor cycles or moto x best pose next to your bike.

Fuck xgames, that said I'll watch because I want to see if anything interesting happens.

Oh yeah and fuck the announcing, jesus christ it's horrible.

Have been watching it since the beginning so why stop now.

PS: that downhill skateboarding and street luge shit were pretty rad.

fuck x games, they take put bmx street and replace it with call of duty, since when was that an extreme sport. the guys who are pushing bmx the hardest right now are street riders and now they get to sit on the side while some 32 year old who still lives with his mom gets on tv for playing video games

Did they actually get rid of bmx street? That would be fucking nuts. Also bmx dirt was gone for 7 fucking years. Cool xgames you added moto x flat tire enduro where it's just like the other enduro but with flat tires. Then moto x best rev where everyone revs their bikes and a winner is randomly chosen, and all kinds of other fun shit.


Also watched call of duty one of the first times. My clan would gave fucked those noobs up in domination. They were pro gamers, seemed pretty good at search and team deathmatch, but they sucked at domination. Would have loved to have played them.

That said how the fuck can you give a gold medal for that shit?

I'm waiting for something to come out to counter that. I don't care if it's huge, I don't care if they have a mega ramp. Just get some different sports together, some good tunes, and fuck the bullshit.

yeah man they took it out. its sad cause when you look at the best/most hyped edits in the past year theyre all street. (garrett, stevie, begin, matt ray, fiending). the guys who are pushing and progressing this sport get robbed when they take it out.

its also the only event people can really relate to. sure, cork 900 barspins are impressive, but no averge person watching it on tv can justify how hard that is. when people watch bmx street and watch someone like brock do a pegs over hard 3, they can stand at the bottom of a stairset and really apreciate how hard that must have been to do. tony hamlin tweeted it right "It's hilarious that 3 of 4 bmx events in the X-games are the most unobtainable for its viewers and yet street riding got the boot." im not saying park is easier (im a park rider myself) its just crazy that moving your thumbs has suddenly become more extreme than guys pulling 540's down stairsets on bikes

Super fucked. People don't get why I hate xgames and have hated x for years. This is that kind of shit.

I honestly don't even get excited for x. In the winter I want to see the slope layout and the big air jump but as far as the contest I'm like" oh x games is on, I guess I'll watch it".


20 years of watching this shit and the dive it's taken in the last 10 or so has been huge.

Also are they still doing skate street? If they are, they'll already have a course and what the fuck is it to just run one more even on a course they've already built. Hell with xgames and their money what the hell is it to even build that small little course anyway.

Run the contest at like 10 am and don't televise it. Just run the damn thing though.


WE NEED SOME FUCKING ALTERNATIVES.

Back in the late 90's and into the early 2000s we had B3, gravity games, and other contests. Granted the xgames grew a lot beginner but at the beginning they were pretty similar. The park courses were on par, a vert ramp is a vert ramp unless it's built like shit etc.

Wish something like that would come along. Just vert, park street and dirt. Even if the park and street are on the same course sectioned out like how xgames used to do it. Could even kickstart the funding for that. Keep it small in terms of events. Just do skate bmx and inline(fuck it do it) and have most everything between the vert and park/street setup. Have the small 6 pack dirt course on the side. Even if you only had 10k people show up through the day or 2 days it would still be doable, and you would gain the exposure for the future. With the ability of online streaming, even if you couldn't get it on tv, or at least not outside of local/regional, release the live stream online. Then archive it for people to watch after on your website.

Get some decent but fairly cheap bands both up and comers and maybe a few established ones from the past that are kind of chillin but still playing.

Wouldn't even care about competing with Xgames in terms of $ or viewers. It wouldn't matter. IT would be about providing a fun as hell contest, getting some people stoked, and keeping it sustainable. The $ and viewers is where xgames went wrong even 15 years ago. Just sell out after sell out. Anything to increase profits and gain viewers. Maybe it was about the sports at the beginning but after a while it wasn't. They would trade out any one of those sports and replace it with something that makes more money whether it be replacing skate big air with a dirt bike long distance wheelie contest or whatever.

It doesn't have to be all about keeping it core. You need to reach the people. Not trying to make it exclusive, but a contest that still has a soul.

Fuck I hope that one day I could find a way to pull something like this off.

They should create a ski jumping event, where you actually have to jump over a tank of sharks.

They should do raffle where you can win gold medals.
