Granite_StateWait wut? Do they teach you in Canada that the British won the war of 1812? lol. Not even close. If anything it was a stalemate. Yeah America suffered defeats when they pushed too far into Canada but the British suffered equal defeats on the border and in the South.
ha. yeah no Canada (British won).
Here's how it went down (just read a bit on it):
1812: US declares war for 2 main reasons, 1- land acquisition by invading Canada and 2- to end trade blockades in place by the British.
between 1812 and 1814: British and Canadians have fended off any American incursions onto Canadian soil, not much has changed in the way of trade restrictions.
1814: British finish up with Napoleonic Wars and are able to send a shitload of troops to the States and take over a bunch of land in the NE, burn Washington, and fail at a couple big invasions like Plattsburge.
British and US don't care any more about keeping the war going, so the sign a treaty at Ghent. At the signing of this treaty the US had achieved none of its goals. Trade restrictions were still in place and they managed to get none of Canada.
The British then attack New Orleans and lose badly (not knowing that a treaty was signed) and then the war actually ends. People think the defeat at New Orleans is the Americans winning, but really it's not.
Trade restrictions are then lifted later because of pressure by British nobility since they're not making money on trades.
So to sum up:
-US wants to take over Canada and end trade restrictions
-US fails to invade Canada and end trade restrictions
-trade restrictions lifted after war because of internal British pressures
-US thinks they won because last battle in the south was a victory against the British.
-really Canada and British won
-really Natives lost because they had the largest casualties and gained nothing.
-US still gained nothing so definitely didn't win.
