Why do new companies continue to release POV cameras. Gopro is so far ahead of every other camera I've seen used. I just don't see the point

Meh, I doubt gopro will hold the market forever. Canon and Nikon definately have better cameras, they need to just put it in a small package.

In all seriousness, though... the reason GoPro has jumped through the market is because their competition hasn't marketed as well. Think about it... most of the other companies generally have POV cams as their 'side-bish' as far as products go. Sony, Shimano, Panasonic, Garmin... You have the Ion, and.. is Contour still around? but those can't compete with GoPro's marketing scheme...

GoPro has effectively marketed it's way into every action-cam being called a "GoPro". Similar to how people in Texas ask for a "Coke" when ordering any soda...

GoPro had brand recognition, people buy GoPros not because they're better but because people know what they are.
