When people post they usually get replies still. Nit nearly as active as it once was. People legit just don't know the cults exist since they kind of died around 09.

i have notifications on for build a jib and check it pretty regularly. always down to help a fellow NSer out with their drop in!

Yeah cults were the shit. I think it was a mixture of over-shooting the complexity of what we wanted to do - but also a massive change in viewing behavior.

Twitter / Facebook / Etc have all taught people to just sit there and wait for content to come to them vs. going out and looking for it. The very nature of forums - and especially private ones - is to go there and actively participate in discussion.

I would love to see a thread get started up though about ideas that could breathe some life back in there. For sure we're ditching things like Cult News, photos, videos - but putting some work into the conversational part of it could be cool.

Either that or just pick the handfull that are still cool and make them into subforums of the main site.

I feel like if you could revive a few of them and get them rolling some of the others might come back to life.

Maybe if we got a group of people together and started all posting in a cult for a few weeks and inviting other to post there. Got some conversations happening, we could kickstart them.

People don't post in cults because they look dead, but if people don't post in them they will be dead. The build a jib cult is a great example. People post in SG because their are more threads but they're asking the same stuff from build a jib and every thread in build a jib still gets good replies.

Had some stuff going in park designers as well. Maybe if we got a group and really made a point to read and post in one of the cults we could bring it back. Use the watch feature you guys installed to help with that. 10 people doing that could probably make it happen.


Here are some ideas that might all suck but just trying to think of anything.
Maybe a short video to send people when they join explaining the cults, the main features, how they work, and the follow button.

Maybe making a 1 day period where when you make an account you can only post in cults.( that could end up bad though)

a summer setup forum would clear up skigabber a ton! i miss the cults

I mean this is the ticket - the problem is getting critical mass so others check back. We're thinking about some way to easier subscribe to a few cults and expanding the notifications as well as MyThreads.

A video is a really good idea. I mean when we get the right groups of people together its awesome - just hard to get initial buy-in.

been trying to get in the 4/20 cult for years! Hook it up! Homies be like, nahh man, they closed it no more invites, and I be like mann, wheres a De-script when i need one? Act me like javas that strong! Half-caf at best!

I wonder if doing that there would be away to subscribe to that cult right from whereever it's highlighted. Worst case a link to the cult mentioning to join and put it on the watch.

If doing any of this stuff would be cool to push the watch feature somewhere. I know some people use it but if even 10-20 people had the watch feature on in some of these cults I feel like that would change the dynamic and make the cults seem even more populated than they are. Hell for the most part I click through "My Threads" and then once in a while scroll up and down the main forums to see if there's anything new that interests me.

With that watch feature I think every new thread get's put in your my threads at first? Or do you just get alerted?

I feel like build a jib would be an easy one to revive as it's still got some life. Maybe we could pick something like 5 cults and spend some time on each one trying to get it going. Sure some of them will probably dip off afterwards but I feel if we can get some people in there and get some conversation maybe we can save some. Eve if it only worked for one cult I'm down.

Honestly sub forums are alright, I'm not hating, but the cults are one of the things that made this site what it is imo. The first 2 years or so I was on this site I rarely even left the cults. IF there's anything we that can be done to salvage them I think it's worthwhile.
