Taxi drivers protesting against uber

"Hundreds of black cab drivers brought traffic in the streets around the House of Commons to a halt in a protest against unlicensed taxis in London.
Drivers staged a demonstration outside the headquarters of Transport for London (TfL) in Westminster on Tuesday in an ongoing dispute over the activities of unlicensed firms and new companies such as Uber. The protesters from United Cabbies Group claim TfL is not doing enough to enforce rules that ensure public safety in London taxis."

Maybe clean your fucking cabs every so often and don't be such dicks to your passengers then people won't have to use Uber.

Uber drivers may have cleaner cars, but they still try and fuck you over by taking you on longer routes just to up your fare. Especially when the surcharge is at a ridiculous amount.

I was in Philly last weekend and my estimated fare to get from my hotel to downtown was $19-22. The guy knew i wasnt from around and took me the longest way possible running my fare up to $75.

I was in Philly last weekend and my estimated fare to get from my hotel to downtown was $19-22. The guy knew i wasnt from around and took me the longest way possible running my fare up to $75.


That's why I will never get picked up or dropped off at a hotel. I'll always walk a block or so to somewhere that isn't a hotel and get picked up there. Play it like I'm from the area.

It is pretty hard to find a hard working honest person anymore. when i rode in a cab the same thing happen to me.

Ive never had that experience. But I also look at the map as were driving to make sure we arent going some crazy way. If you can read a map and question the driver, you should be able to avoid it.

They see the opportunity to make some cash and can't resist. 50 bucks is quite a bit extra to pay tho. That's a little over the top...

yeah but you can always review them and say they're dodgy, sure it may suck for you to get a hefty fare but you can write feedback on them and let other people know. Then they'll stop getting fares and stop being dodgy. There's no service for a cabbie like that

Uber does provide a much superior service compared to taxis in my area and they are less expensive. The problem is taxis currently have to pay licensing and other fees that Uber drivers do not. It is only a matter of time until the Government starts charging Uber fees just the same as taxis. I think even after Uber is forced to raise fees because of government regulation they will still thrive. I am willing to pay a premium for the quicker service and peace of mind of knowing when my riding is going to arrive to pick me up.

Thats what i did. The guy could hardly speak any English, if he even could at all which made it even harder to try and tell him hes going the wrong way. Next time ill make sure to have my maps running so I dont get some ridiculous charge

The thing people don't realize is that black cab drivers (like those in London) are nothing like cab drivers almost anywhere else. It's an incredibly difficult job to get because they have to know literally everything. And then they have to know countless different ways to get to every location.

It's not like in the US where you can walk in looking for a job, and drive out in a taxi. It's also not nearly as terrible for the drivers.
