Summer Setups and New Skis

I just bought a pair of new icelantic nomads, and they're the only pair of skis I have since my others are broke. I'm in the middle of building a pretty burly summer setup, and was wondering if after de tuning my skis, using them brand new on my setup is the best idea. I know set ups are notorious for beating up skis, but I wanted to hear some other opinions/stories. Any genuine answers regarding how the skis might end up are appreciated.

Be wary of your landing. Make sure your not landing on small rocks every hit.

I've got a sort of 2 layered landing. Thick tarp at the base and then turf on top.

What is your drop in surface? Because lattice and Msnow aren't too kind to skis.

Look on Craig'slist for skis of or you can find pairs on ns for cheap and that will insure your skis stay new

turf and tarp will be fine

msnow doesnt damage skis if you have the wax on it, can add some small scratches but nothing serious

op what is your drop in surface?

First half is plastic lattice, second half is turf.

the plastic lattice would probably scratch them up alot, how broken are your other skis? are you able to get any urband/bad condition skis for your setup?

My other skis would work, they're pretty damn small and I took the bindings off, so I'd have to remount them myself since I just blew $600 on a new pair of skis.

most likely youre edges are going to be fine. its your bases id be worried about. their going to get really scratched up from dirt no matter what you do and will also probably start to dry out.

I just made a drop in thats all Msnow and im using my brand new Armada Bdogs that are 170s.my old skis were around 150, so they were really short too. One thing ive noticed is that when learning on a smaller ski then going to a longer ski on snow is much harder to learn. So i just ended up using my Bdogs on the drop in... The only damamge ive noticed were some chipping on the sides of the skis from my skis rubbing together and the blades just chipping away at the sides. This happens even when your on snow and is a natural thing for park skiers. So i would just make sure the turf is clean before skiing down so you dont sratch the bases. Also if you are wetting down the ramp for extra speed make sure when you land its on turf and its clean so theirs no durt on it. If theirs dirt and its wet then the dirt will stick to the bottom of your skiis and scratch them.

Had a friend use a brand new pair of Joysticks on his summer setup, ripped out the entire edge on both the insides of his skis. Its not that hard to find cheap skis to use for summer setup/shit skiing on NS, I would prob just drop 50-70 bucks on a pair or beaters to ensure you don't mess up nice new skis if you don't have to.

Morons.

Plastic lattice doesn't do crap to your skis. I used my kittens a bit and no dings at all. Bases are exactly the same as before I used them.

Only thing that it hurts is your top sheets from when your wreck those bad boys bang together pretty hard.

Also it dries your bases out (my kittens won't freaking dry out). But my scotts are terribly dry but can simply be fixed by waxing and then If it's needed a base grind once the snow season starts.

So if you have a nice setup with turf and lattice (no dirt, rail supports are covered so you don't gouge yourself or your skis) you will be just fine

totally depends on your setup but typically not the best idea to use new skis in the summer. find cheap, used skis that you don't mind destroying. on a side note, i have tons of Msnow for sale. check my threads. PM for my phone number to discuss details.

I haven't used my skis at all, I just tend to use an old pair that I remounted.

since you ride hyland, your skis probably won't last you past early February. I'd say go for it and get as much skiing in as you can in the summer because hyland is 10x worse for you skis than dirt ever will be. this is terrible advice but it has some validity.

I just got a new pair of skis and only used them like 3 times at the end of the season. I have a pair of broken ninthwards with the edges coming off. They work on a summer setup and I literally don't have to worry about them getting damaged at all. If you don't have an old crappy pair, you can just buy an old crappy pair for like 50 bucks.

I use some shitty old skis. they work great, and shorter than my usual skis. The bases are VERY thirsty though/ Just be careful of whatever you fasted the turf down with. I used screws.. And one got my skis pretty good.
