anyone ever heard of this, somekids were talking about at school today and its kinda freaky of what supposedly is supposed to happen. In a nutshell, there is supposedly another planet outside of pluto witha s uper wide eliptical orbit, apparently at some time this planet is supposed to get inbetween the earth and the sun, this would cause the poles to flip, which would disrupt every single fault line on earth, causing huge cataclysmic earthquakes and every volcano on earth to erupt, there would be so much soot from the volcanos that it would literally rain fire- Armageddon, over 2/3 of thw orld s population would perish....

this is just fuckin scary

I've heard of Planet X; if it even exists, its supposed to be smaller than Pluto; probably just a comet caught in an orbit around the sun. I doubt it would even come near earth, but even if it did, it would be far too small to cause any major problems; large comets pass by the earth all the time. As for the poles switching; that has happened before, but no one knows exactly what would happen, because nothing was recorded the last time it happened many thousands of years ago.

THey are able to look at the patterns in the layers of rock and stuff from a long time ago; For example all of the material will look like this //////////////, and then there would be a pole shift and all of it would look like this \\\\\\\\\, and they have found that it has done that several times. Im not sure if its six, but that could be right

ya I pretty sure planet X is true. Its some small planet past pluto. But there isnt any garenteed evidence yet. Chances of its passing between us and the sun in our life time is very small.

Bullshit.

There are many bodies outside of our solar system, in a area called the Kuiper belt, just past pluto. There are believed to be many large bodies orbiting in this area, they are all asteroids trapped in the sun's gravitational pull. The chances of one of these objects venturing into the inner solar system is extremely small, and, even if it did, it wouldn't cause the magnetic poles to switch. This is complete bullshit.

On a side note, the poles were believed to switch places last around 11,000 years ago, but we don't know when or how they would switch next time. They gradually move a few miles every year, this is expected, and the compasses correct for it. The sun often ejects energy (solar flares) that can change the magnetic field, but not to a large enough scale to cause any major problems.

Latch, its a sad truth but the only place that i have been able to put my education to good use is in arguments on ns.

And this plant X thing is completly new to me... But does anyone know if there is any kinda pattern in the swtiching of the poles? I think i remember when i was younger listing to a radio show and they said that if there was a pattern that it would happen again soon.

From what I know:

The earths poles gradually flip constantly, unrelated to such a planet.

Although, i believe pluto was discovered by people curious about the strange orbit of neptune, concluding its shape was due to the gravity of a body with a large mass. Bam, they find pluto, but the thing is pluto is small, not big enough to do the job so...
