Man claims pot arrest goes against his religion

So a true rastafarian was arrested for having and distributing marijuana in his house after he was robbed and shot. And he claims it goes against his freedom of religion, which it does. He's using the "hobby lobby" defence. Do all the conservatives out there agree on this? Freedom of religion?

Freedom of religion should not extend to the length where they are immune from drug persecution. (I support the legalization of marijuana, but what if it was a different drug?) besides, who knows what else they'll claim they're exempt from next if they're exempt from that.

yeah this whole claim is so stupid. However, it does raise the hypocrisy of the hobby lobby decision.

the hobby lobby decision pretty much said that corporations don't have to pay certain taxes if it goes against their religion. Like a fucking corporation has religious freedom. And if you think a corporation does, you're an idiot. The exact same people will then go around and say that this man who is awaiting trial for marijuana that he does not have religious freedom because marijuana is a crime. Understand?

they argued that they don't have to pay for someone else sexual habits by a LEGAL birth control pill, don't wrongfully generalize something to make yourself come off all high and mighty.

I remember reading somewhere that freedom of religion will not be infringed upon at all, unless the religion involves consumption of illicit drugs, or human sacrifice

yeah okay I used the wrong term. They still argued that obamacares contraception mandate goes against their christian faith and used freedom of religion to do so. I'm not going to turn this into a hobby lobby discussion because there's already one of them on NS somewhere, but if you don't think hobby lobby decision contradicts a man being charged with weed and claiming religious freedom then you're an idiot. plain and simple

it doesn't at all. its not for religious at all, its just an easy claim to make. It just saves them a lot of money and at the end of the day, pot is contraband, birth control is not. I mean honestly if he wanted to smoke weed so badly he can just move to colorado.

Hobby lobby pays their entry level employees 90% above minimum wage. So I doubt they made the objection of fiscal reasons. That being said the guy who was caught with the weed and claiming religious freedoms moving to Michigan to legally grow medical marijuana, which he can't do anymore

cut corners where you can man, its a part of running a business. it probably affects them more than you think.

should native americans be prosecuted for using peyote in their traditional practices? or is that culturally insensitive?

no, because they believe that peyote is more than just a drug. They think it has spiritual value. It has been part of their culture for many years. They don't abuse it to just get high. Pot and Rastafarianism just tend to go hand in hand. It is not the same thing as peyote and native americans.

I was giving you an example to your first post in the thread, which you have not only contradicted, but done so with such amazing ignorance that i dont really know what to say besides please educate yourself, maybe have a little reasoning ceremony, (on Rastafarianism and the spiritualistic uses of cannabis throughout history, to begin with) and dont pass your opinions as facts. one man's trash is another man's treasure, one man's drug is another man's enlightenment, one man's flesh and blood is another man's sacrament..

mayhaps roddy is onto something though... it seems like the logical course of action would be to relocate all rastafarians, or people of differing religious views/practices for that matter, to reservations, then they can do whatever the fuck they want.

thats not what i was getting at, but in a way we have done that already in minnesota, montana and other states that have indian reservations.
