I seriously dislike how resorts continue to price skiing out of the range of most working folks. It decidedly cuts down on the number of people who can afford to become skiers, and as we're all well aware, it's downright uncomfortable and hard to be a beginner anyway.

Fewer roadblocks, cheaper passes, better options to entice folks to the slopes--ultimately, that will keep resorts open, not going for exclusivity.

- Lateral expansion like PCMR and Canyons are doing. Does not thrill me at all going sideways on a mtn. vs up it, but that's just me. The skiings not even going to be that amazing either, but whatevs. I guess im ungrateful for wanting better terrain instead of a flashy gondy and some lodges.



- Rude people. really baffles me how some people can just be straight up fuckwads when doing something purely for recreation. I understand factors like money, travel issues, etc, play a role, but you're fucking skiing, sliding around on snow, something many people don't get to do. Shut the fuck up and put a smile on your face, you cunt. I don't give a fuck if you paid X amount of dollars to wait in liftlines. don't come out over Christmas then, asshole.


- The corporate seriousness of ski resorts. We're in the business of fun, people. lets stop worrying about being sued all the damn time and live a little for fucks sake.

this is a great post. I agree 100%. Its painfully obvious resorts cater to the rich demographic, and it just creates an unwelcoming vibe to people interested in the sport. no reason a small family should have to save up years in advance just to go have some fun.

Distance they are from my house. Traveling adds up and can be a bitch and I can't really handle 6 hours of driving in a day just to ski east coast.


The other beefs most people are bringing up on here like crowds and prices are true for everything not just skiing.

shitty snow years creating bottlenecks on groomers. If i have to ski groomers atleast let me bomb them and make huge GS turns and launch off of rollers. If i have to ski defensively the whole time, skiing becomes boring very quickly.

the rise of upper intermediate folks doing inbounds hikes because their fat skis let them ski soft snow. It used to only be the guys that ripped who would be willing to hike for good snow/terrain, but now every tom, dick, and sally has reverse-reverse skis and can have fun with shitty technique. Yes, i want people to not have as much fun haha.

not letting you sleep in the parking lots anymore. It used to be standard for people to overnight in lots during storms, but lately more and more places are banning overnight parking. It sucks. I had a good routine for a few years there- wake up at 630, dress, stumble into the lodge with my tupperware breakfast and throw it into the microwave. Eat, take a shit, make my own french press coffee with the free hot water, lazily mosey out to my car to put on my outerwear and boots. Be in the liftline lineup by 8.

isolated midwest resorts that take advantage of customers by make lift tickets/ season passes insanely expensive since people who want to ski in Missouri hav no where else to go (Hidden valley ski, st louis MO)

Some weird complaints:

Ticket offices should be open through the night so people don't have to queue in the morning and can feel okay asking questions and taking their time.

High speed blue runs - autobahn downhill runs where you can just go as fast as you want. So maybe blue runs marked double black.

Places to get free water on the run - and so can refill water bottles without stress.

How competitive powder days are and the crowds. Being in a dead rush to hit all the good areas while everything gets skied out in a couple of hours definitely is a bummer and makes me want to get into the backcountry.

How some multi-peak resorts on weekdays close some of their lifts which limits access. At least mark down your prices if only half the terrain is going to be open.

And the grooming techniques at some midwest resorts.

I think there needs to be some way of using wind and solar power to melt snow and ideally keep it from freezing while in a tank as people come and take the water. Maybe the tank should be in a building, while taking a small fee.

Good water is going to help people feel good.

People that are short tempered for no real reason like those people that have a rage if you are going fast on a run when they are going slow or if someone goes over their topsheet in the lift line by accident. Stuff like this happens in skiing. Its a part of it and if you aren't willing to accept that this stuff happens i don't think they should be skiing.

I've always wanted skiing to be available to lower class people. Imagine if true "hood" thugs started skiing. Instead of a bunch of white kids in baggy outerwear, it would be actual gangsters. The creative limits would be endless.

I can't stand all the people who complain about conditions here. "It's too icy." "It's too slow." "It's too cold." etc. As if you can't look up what the weather is going to be like and plan accordingly. I worked as a lifty this past season and I couldn't tell you how many people would bitch about the cold and other conditions. Just wish people would be more grateful that they can even ski here.

We still have all fixed grip lifts at my home hill. It takes one of our lifts 11 minutes to get up 550 vert feet. Others here average about 6-7 minutes. For some reason they still haven't done anything about the lifts. This season we had a minor rollback so hopefully they take that as a reason to upgrade some of their old shit.

My hill also rearranged the park setups and put them on our two main runs. 10 times as many gapers going through as ever. The lift line was significantly longer, as you had to take our main lift up. Fucking sucked. Last season we went from having our own park lift in the quietest part of the hill with 6 minute hot laps to 12 minute laps in the busiest part of the resort.

Well the #1 is easy if you've been to Vail resorts: yellow jackets. It's fucked how you can have your head on a swivel watching for people in front, to the side, and BEHIND you while carving perfect turns and still get a warning or your pass pulled for skiing "out of control" or "too fast" or whatever.

And this is kind of a Colorado thing, but I hate all the people who feel like they have to drive a Subaru/AWD/4WD. Must because so many people come from areas with no snow and they suck at driving. I grew up in a city (Duluth) that is built on a steep ass hill that has 15-15% grades throughout, and honestly I don't remember seeing all that many AWD/4WD vehicles.

Skiing is a rich man sport. Take it for what it is, it kinda kills the vibe but not really. Vail is my #1 resort. Many people say its too snobby for them, whatever. We get drunk, kill it and talk shit all day. That's how you do it

You're right! We new to build bigger mountains so we can just keep going up an up and up...

Most everyone in here is bitching bout money/pricing. And then there are the people who complain about lift lines and crowding. Sorta counterintuitive huh?
