Anonymous p2p/torrent downloading?

currently I'm using kickass torrents + utorrent for my movie/music downloading needs. apparently my roommate has been getting emails from comcast warning us against copyright infringement and it has come to the point where they have a big sign covering our browsers until he calls and speaks with them (plus they slowed it down so our net streams like syrup). I'm assuming this is due to me downloading things without becoming "more anonymous."

my question is, what is the easiest way to protect myself against this (comcast knowing, any resulting legal/etc. infractions against me). I know there was a thread on this a while ago, couldn't find it.

I tried to google it, but it's super convoluted and hopefully someone on here and just tell me "download this, put in this information, bam, download as much porn as you want."

just download a VPN. I use cyberghost 5. All it does it redirects your IPN address so you can surf anonymously.

so if I were to search for cyberghost 5 on good ole google, then install that to my shitbox of a macbook from 2009, I can download as much porn...movies I mean...as I want?

is this something I can just leave up all the time? I have a vague idea of what a virtual private network is, but it's about as vague as knowing that multiple sclerosis is a neurological disorder

but to kind of explain this I'm going to not answer your question directly and hopefully you can get what you need from my answer. As far as I know it's not the internet providers fault your internet is being limited. It would be the people who have the copyrights to the content being shared who are able to issue warnings to the cable companies. So it is more than likely that they are tracking the stuff you are downloading to your IP address. Meaning that it's not the internet companies tracking the content you're downloading, however it's the people who own the rights to the copyrighted material tracking where their material is being downloaded to and sending off warnings to the companies linked with the IP address.

If you don't get the answer you seek from this someone will probably just tell you. lol

from what i've read/heard, you're more likely to get busted for torrenting if you share the material. i guess they have a tendency to go after those that are perpetuating the cycle of piracy more so than simple end users. i use kickass/tpb + utorrent and just remove the files after i download.

this could be a complete crock of shit? i really don't know for certain. just what i've heard/read/been told.

Get yourself an account to a private tracker website, go to reddit.com/r/torrent or reddit.com/r/trackers to get some more info.

VPN for sure. Especially in good ol USA where you could get royally effed by a hefty lawsuit.

At least in Canada they generally won't go after individuals illegally downloading since there's a max fine of $5000 if you're not profiting off the downloads so it's really not worth their legal fees. ISP's do send out a lot of angry emails on behalf of the copyright owners though, but if you do get one don't respond. Don't even acknowledged that you got one.

no, I see what you're saying. that's the correct way to put it.

also, I'm not spending a dime to watch the miserable-quality movies I watch. I'll splurge for classics like furious 7 and mad max though lol

I don't seed or share anything, so it must not have been that. I also close utorrent as soon as they finish downloading.

tried to download cyberghost 5, my computer is too old to run it (mac 10.5.8, unable to update).

any other suggestions?

I got the longest email I've ever received from shaw cause my roommate was torrenting game of thrones. but it was after we had both moved out so I just cancelled the service and they gave me $50
