Ghost Towns are sick! They are usually deep in the mountains, have a ton of unique structures for urban as well as big lines. Retallack is great example of how cool they are.
We've all dreamed of having a private backcountry lodge, with epic 4 season recreation out the back door. Having been witness to the construction costs of a remote private lodge. As of now, I'm priced out of the market. The other pit fall is the maintenance(the house, the sleds, the boats, trails). You end up spending a million dollars to have a weekend getaway and spend all your time doing chores.
The idea of having a "Shared house" with a caretaker becomes much more appealing.
Ghost towns are a good starting point for doing it on a budget. The infrastructure is there, the sewer, the road, the bones. And the cost is pennies to the dollar compared to at a resort. And the experience would rival the local heli ops.
To make it work it would take about 20 people to buy in. Id be curious to know have the new school market would value the 1/20 share in ownership of a 4 season backcountry house.
