CampeadorAbsolutely I can, because he is a moron. His withdrawal of Canadian military jets from the conflict against ISIS further proves it. He lives in this left-wing fantasy land where not attacking Muslim jihadists will make them not hate you.
You are only listening to your right wing media, not actually seeking facts on the situation.
What you have to remember is that Canada is not a warring nation. We handle our security by not attacking others, and engaging in refugee support, peacekeeping and aid measures. You can defeat terrorists by cutting off the lines that create new ones. Supporting immigrants, not killing kids in airstrikes gone wrong and training local forces are all ways to ensure a country can start to re-build on its own. I mean the immigrants that are fleeing this shit are all coming to our countries, and we take in as many as we possibly can and help give them a new life. We know they'll be productive citizens, and make our country a better place.
We had six jets over there. Not many in the grand scheme of things, and there are loads of other efforts which are not getting enough support which just might actually help stabilize the area and allow the occupying forces to eventually leave - or at least wind down to humanitarian efforts with a real democracy in place.
Our Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan said the following:
Sajjan recounted what a ground force commander in Iraq once told him to illustrate why the West must avoid repeating mistakes of the past.
"Today, we are dealing with the son of al-Qaeda. If we don't get the next piece right — and the next piece is not the military piece, it's that political piece — we will be dealing with the grandson of al-Qaeda." Source
Much of the problem with direct military force in this type of a situation is utilizing only that you make the problem worse. I mean, didn't the Americans train and arm Osama Bin Laden? That was all around the cold war with Russia, and as a country we don't believe that more war is the solution.
We don't hide behind America, we stand in fear of it creating more war in the world for increasingly suspect reasons. Instead of fighting harder, we want to help pick up the pieces so that countries can actually stabilize and perhaps one day war in the world can decrease.
There is no way you're going to buy into this, because I can tell from your tone and arguments that you are only allowing one strain of thought into your mind. I can agree with you completely that this ISIS situation isn't going to get solved without fighting, but if we don't handle the other side as well... the problem will never go away. You could never remove all the terrorists through force because you'd have to nuke the entire country.... and the children will rise up in anger against those and become even stronger than their fathers.
America was founded as a country by a small group of radicals who fought ruthlessly against an occupying force, no? When the British were the oppressors, should they simply have fought harder to crush the American rebellion? In the end you guys became a strong country because you were able to create your own laws, own rule and be freed from the British Empire. There are good people over there too, and they need to be empowered to build their own country back.
We're much better at that than carpet bombing places where there are civilian casualties. So, much of our country voted NDP and Liberal, who together changed our strategy in the middle east.
