Sking buddy leaving me

B.RyanSo i just found out that my buddy is enlisting in the military in the fall, which i give him mad props for. And he happens to be leaving for boot camp in october. Way before ski season in my area but still kind of depressing. Whats the best way to find new skiing buddies? Im gonna be in need of one come this next season

I'm in the same predicament. My best bud is leaving for West Point in June. I've skied with him since I was like 7...I'm gonna be lost next season

Hey man similar thing happened to me. My best friend and I both went away to college this year and we'd ski with each other almost everyday in high school. It sucks, but a few days out there by yourself and you'd easily find some people to ski with. Check out regionals on here too. Theres bound to be people in your area.

This season I skied by myself a lot and I actually really loved it. I just threw on some music and did whatever I wanted, it was pretty great. Try it out, you might like it! Then when my friend and I were able to ski together during Spring Break it just made me appreciate the time we had together more so that was really cool!

I met a lot more people this season than I ever had in a season so maybe you will too! Just gotta get yourself out there!

Just talk to people and you will find out that it is really easy to meet people on lift rides. Also, riding by yourself is really relaxing and refreshing.

It might be a good idea to start looking now so over the summer you can all get to know each other really well.

i know your pain my friend is leaving for college this year and we live in a small town so i dont have many ski buddies

I met 40+ people this year. I live in the midwest too so its tiny and not a lot of people. If i can do it, you can do it. Talk to people in the park, but also like backcountry depending on where you live. Find people that you can ride with in various places on the mountain. Find someone for backcountry, another for park, and another for all mountain, that way you can ride with some on each type of days

If no buddy skis at some of your mountains(which is doubtful) hang out with some snowboarders. I talk to skiers as much as I do boarders. You can meet people anywhere. Hell I ended up talking to this rad amputee guy at the bus stop that I'm probably going to ski with next year. Not sure what we started off with but skiing came up. Dude was the man.

Just be social.

Start off with talking to some people on the lift, talking to some people on the drop in the park, hiking with people, and having a good time.

Making friends doesn't have to be a huge project. You don't have to study them for weeks, make of some charts and compare your interests in some computer database to see if you are compatible as friends.

A lot of the best friendships are people that just randomly met somehow somewhere. It's time and experiences that make those friendships awesome. Sure there are some people that you can tell right away, this persons awesome and we're going to to be bestest friends forever but sometimes there's people that you don't even like much that will end up being your best friends.

Just don't close yourself off to the world. Be kind, social, open to meeting new people, and just have fun on the mountain.

Friends will come and go throughout your life. People change. It's sad sometimes when you fall out of touch with a good friend, but if you had the same friends your whole life that would be pretty lame a lot of times IMO.

Just ride the wave of life and don't read too much into the bullshit. And if you're old enough and into that, if you're really striking out it never hurts to have some extra beers to share or spark up a blunt on the drop in and meet some peoples.
