Importance of Image Stabilization

Just curious, how necessary is Image Stabilization in a lense (16-35mm) when filming skiing with a glide cam?

I am debating the pros and cons of Canon's 16-35 f/4 IS, and the 16-35 f/2.8 II (non-IS), and I need some help.

I'm a huge fan of the 2.8 maximum aperture for low light situations, but if Image Stabilization is a big concern when it comes to video, I might have to go with the f/4.

Any first-hand experience or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Just chiming in here on IS. I have used it quite a bit. I actually have had great experiences with it. I don't use it any more as i have moved to all manual lenses.

When i did use it i found it helped a ton. But as spoken watch out for distortion it can cause some nasty issues.

As for using it on a glidecam.... i found it to help alot. I used the canon 24-105 for a majority of my glidcam work. When shooting at higher mm around 70 or above it helps a ton. I was able to get smoth glides at 105 for long style jump shots. For me this was huge because i was able to get tripod style shots without having to jump over to the sticks. This allows me to get a wide variety of angles without changing the set up.

I used is on the glide cam for majority of this edit. https://vimeo.com/114842278

But for the 16-35mm i dont think it would be needed. You will be better of saving the money.
