Lightroom won't accept .ARW files from my RX100iii

I'm getting pretty pissed off at this point. I have been uploading files from my RX100III for a long time now with no problems. Now I have a whole series of photos from Morocco and Italy that I REALLY want to upload and edit and I can not for the life of me get LR5 to accept them! Does anybody have any idea?
- It usually reads my .ARW's
- I have tried adobe raw converter to convert to .DNG before lightroom and it won't recognize the files either
- I don't believe it's possible to upgrade LR5 anymore than what I have now (8.1)
Any ideas of file types that they could be converted to without losing the flexibility of raw? Any ideas why it wouldn't be reading the files? Any help would be appreciated!

What's the error message you get? Is it something like “the files cannot be read”?
If it is it's probably your destination folder not being writable by LR. Try changing the folder in destination settings in your import panel and see if that helps.

I'm bumping this again.. Now I've got an RX100 IV and the ARW files won't read! The destination folder doesn't seem to be the issue, though I believe the suggestion fixed it up last time. Any other ideas?

do you have the most up to date lightroom CC?
I had this issue when I got my GH4, since I had an old CS6 with no ability to update, Lightroom could not open them. purchased adobe CC and boom worked no problem

I don't. I have an authentic copy of LR5 (updated to 5.7.1) but haven't felt like upgrading, honestly, I hate editing. All of this nonsense of nothing working isn't making me like it anymore than I do already! I'd be pretty rattled if I had to upgrade just to get the damn program to understand ARW files.. I think i'm just going to shoot JPEGS tomorrow for the event I'm covering, and get everything right in camera haha.
Lightroom isn't even thinking about reading them now, it's less than a second and saying "Yup, no chance."

You could download a trial of lightroom or photoshop cc to convert your files using camera raw or lightroom. Unfortunately your version of lightroom is likely to not get any further updates to support newer cameras.

What OS are you running? Did the RX100III come with any software?

Yeah, you're gonna need to update lightroom, they update the supported cameras with each release. The only way around this is to use a newer version of adobe camera raw and batch then into DNGs.
But for real, just update lightroom.
