The scene in Australia isn't very big because of our lack of mountains and resorts so i was wondering how many aussie skiers are on newschoolers and what your plans are for the upcoming season are. Also wondering how many aussies have a good backyard/summer setup.
Sitting this season out as I'm living in Canada. But hopefully some sick footage comes out of Peri this year. Charles is bringing in even more rails this season
Aye Mate, I reckon you're pretty wrong here. The Australian scene is pretty significant. Planning to ski all the comps at peri, falls and thredbo. Autumn is looking pretty wet right now so hoping it'll be a good season.
Planning to ride Perisher around 3 days a week this season in between Uni and work in Wollongong. Thredbo is definitely the go on a pow day, but it doesn't really justify buying a pass.
Summer setups are pretty rare, I only know one or two people who own one.
Frothing for this season.
+1 For Perisher, season pass is paid for just counting the days now. So stoaked.
Thredbo just doesn't seem worth it as you pay the same for the pass but get less runs and these days the same amount of people in the lift lines. Good pub though...

Why can't you get a job with Perisher? I don't know too much about their park crew apart from Charles killing it ever since he came to Peri. The normal park crew at Peri are pretty retarded and throw salt like retards so there might be an opening there.

BEcause they didn't post any and I'm in the USA. Then last year NZ had a shit season and Aussie was crushing it, especially perisher. So now everyone wants to go there. Not Vail bought it so everyone wants to go there. The last year has worked against my chances I think.
That said if you know anyone on the park crew or have anyones email I'd be down to send my resume even if it's hopeless.
Wanted to go back to NZ this year but had some trouble getting the visa in time(different kind of visa this year)

Built the 3 tube rails and some other features. Turoa NZ 14
Some stuff I built at Oak. Did all the cutting on that setup myself. Oak NY 2013
I just whored myself super super hard and apologize but if it gives me even .00001% more of a chance to ever working there I can't help it.
/Sorry
I'm not familiar with working for Peri, but you could always message Charles Beckinsale. Parks are getting bigger in Australia with more of a freestyle culture coming out. So I'd say email every resort you could. Judging from those pictures you make better stuff than every park in Australia except Peri. But Peri is top 10 best parks in the world I'd say.

Yeah and getting a job at a park where you don't know anyone after the exposure they got last year will be tough as hell.
I applied to hotham but they done didn't want me. Worst case I'll do a few grooming seasons and apply for park groomer in a few years. Seems to be an easier job to snag than park.
Maybe someday.
Hope yall have a good season down under. Looks like I'll be tied down to the states this season

Good luck man - you're certainly dedicated to it and your work seems pretty legit, I hope you find something.
Hotham is a good freeride hill, but generally has rubbish terrain parks that either need to be hiked or have 20min+ laps (but only 1/5 is park), so you might have dodged a bullet there ;)
I can't speak for NSW, but I know a lot of the terrain park crews in Vic are pretty much boys clubs where you have to be in the know to get a gig. It would be worth trying for Falls Creek though, as they have had a bit of a clean out of park crew in the last year or two and might be looking for some fresh, talented blood.
Thats a really sick setup dude. How do you get the speed to make that really long pipe from what looks like a pretty small drop in? +K for the sickest aussie setup i've seen

How do you afford to ski so much? I'm going to ANU next year and I don't know how much I'll be able to ski.

I usually sleep in my car, or occasionally crash at a mate's houses. So my only major expenses are petrol and food. Its difficult and super tiring cramming uni into one day, working two days and skiing for 3 days but definitely worth it.

i think youve underestimated the aussie scene. have you ever been to big north american resorts? whistler is all aussies, australians are the largest import to colorado, japan is also all aussies. all these skiers come back to ski australia, we really do have a lot of skiers for the geographical size of our country (people are so spread out) and our minimal numbers of resorts.
we work with what we have. it will never be amazing but everyone seems to enjoy it.

I'm going to Perisher a bit and going to try to do a heap of weekends and first week of uni with mates from UOW this year, could help with accommodation if you're down around when I'd be down.
I'm up at hotham again this year. Parks there are mediocre at best but well made up for with our in bounds (and backcountry). Hollywood hits everywhere on that hill!

SANDOOOOO! You're always welcome to the couch at mine man.
b.uttersWorking at Thredbo again this season. If anyone is keen to ride sometime let me know!
Second year?
With the Vail acquisition of perisher I want the season pass soooo bad but I'm not sure how often I'd be able to make the 8 hour drive down so I don't think I want to fork out the money and then end up wasting it. ass
I've been working for thredbo and living in Jindy since '09.
This year I'm living in Thredbo. Super stoked.
I do ski school so i work like 99.9% of the time but if ya seem me say hi! i wear obviously the red jacket blue ski school pants, but i wear black IO7s with a black poc helemt and black face mask!
I'm working Perisher this season, best parks by far! Check out PowderPak Parks in either Melbourne or Canberra, the Canberra one only has a box and a rail but it's still a pretty sweet setup. The one in Victoria ( i think it's Geelong) is actually pimp daddy, have a look on Facebook!
Living in Canberra and will be heading to Perisher every weekend. A Canadian mate who was going to ANU last year got a job in Jindy for the upcoming season so hopefully we'll be able to cruise together this year. Got 8 days booked in Smigs at the end of August too, pls based snow-god let it snow. Also convinced a mate to switch to skiing from boarding haha, see how that pans out...
I'll be wearing camo Saga pants riding Al Dentes, say hi if you see me, my names Bj!
