Which is more playful? +K

So I can get the Chronics ($500), Volkl Step ($424) or the K2 Domains ($420). (Prices in AUD)

Which one should I for a more playful ski that that performs well on groomers and light pow? I want the ski to be soft to butter around but not to be a noodle.

I'm thinking the K2 Domains unless the Chronics are worth the extra $80 or the Step is the same in terms of playfulness.

Your opinions would be great. Cheers NS

The domains sound like a good fit for you. The chronics are like noodles, and Domains have the perfect amount of flex.

chronics aren't noodles, maybe after breaking them in for a few seasons but they felt a lot more lively then my friends recoils (plus way lighter)

This year's chronics are a lot softer than previous years.

I doubt they softenend up the chronics, let alone to the point where theyre softer than domains. The domains are like wet noodles

They are not in USD. I do feel like you could find a possble better ski for you. Out of those 3, Domains might be the best choice. I do recommend Line TC or something with some rocker.

Haha yeah, unfortunately they are.

As someone pointed out, they are in Australian dollars not US dollars.

I can only buy from stores in Sydney or Australian ski shops. International shopping is way too expensive.

he probably doesn't want a ski that will break in a month though.... But I had the domains last season and I loved them but I can't compare them to the rest cause I have used any of the others

My friend snapped a pair of blends, and he doesn't even know how.

And then I see what stept does to their k2's. Its very easy to see which company makes a more durable ski.

What the Stept guys do is irrelevant because they get free skis (provided the rider is sponsored by K2) so they're on multiple pairs of skis per season. If they went through an entire season on one pair that would be pretty amazing.

To OP: I have a friend with K2 Domains they lasted him a season of heavy park riding which is the standard. He seems to like them, they're a very soft ski if that's what you're looking for. They do however seem somewhat average on groomers though because they have no camber.

Good Point ^. keep in mind that the Domains have zero camber. Won't be as ideal on groomers as the wall or chronic but wont be a huge deal. Also, the Domains have a good amount of rocker as compared to the other 2.

Yeah that's the only thing I'm worried about.

I have to race on them on a super icy slalom course which is probably sketchy without any camber.

Why are you getting a soft park ski to race on? Seems silly to me. After a day of rails they are going to be unridable on a race course.

Just buy a used race ski for like $250ish

This.

Skiing icy race courses competitively on dull railed edges is going to pretty much impossible. Camber probably isn't going to help that much on a icy slope if you have detuned edges.

If however you feel you must use a park ski to race I'd suggest looking at something full camber and stiff like Fischer Nightsticks or Armada Pipe Cleaners. Something with a fast base and is stiff full camber.

Hey dude, I understand the struggle with buying skis in Australia. But have you checked out any deals on level 9? They have some decent park skis for fairly cheap prices. Might not be the softest (E.g punx and nightsticks) but they will be 100 times better on icy conditions and be a lot faster for racing compared to the skis you listed.

Haha thanks. I have checked them out but they are too small or too long. I'm looking of a pair that is between 165-170 cm.

Fair enough then. I would personally go for the domains or steps, either way whatever skis you choose you will have fun on them!

I will never ride a domain again, wayyy too soft, diecut bases that fall apart.... I would say chronics out of the options you have there.

Oh really? I was thinking of getting this years Domains because it comes in a slighter shorted model than the Chronics.

Which years model did you get?

k2 owns line, and just because your friend broke blends doesn't mean the rest of the skis line make aren't durable. Given that I have seen examples of at least 3 blends breaking so yah their not durable but the rest of the line skis are esspecially the chronic

also the flex difference between the domain and chronic isn't much but I would say the Domain would be more playful becasue of no camber and a more extreme tip and tail rocker

Okay thanks. Maybe they changed the actual design since I am getting a different model.

I heard the design of skis change every 4 years so fingers crossed, some improvements were made.
