Anyone actually listen to jazz? Personally I love it. It's such smooth and relaxing music. Recently I have been into lots of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Louie Armstrong stuff.
Let's hear some of your favorite jazz!

KreechI play tenor saxophone and I'm actually just finishing up my first year of college in New York as a jazz performance major. As far as older stuff goes, duke, sydney bechet, louis armstrong, art tatum, etc. those guys are the kings. I could go on but those are my favorite old timey dudes, although duke was doing some pretty crazy, out stuff in his later recordings. Check out "money jungle" it's a trio album of duke, max roach, and mingus and it's just rediculous. As far as more modern stuff goes, miles, coltrane, bill evans, chick corea, herbie hancock, keith jarrett, wayne shorter, michael brecker these guys are absolute masters. For dudes currently on the scene, check out joshua redman, brad mehldau, brian blade, troy roberts, etc. there are way too many to list. But those are some of my favorites. All tremendous players.
thedawgthanks for this post, i really love jazz music and saxophone especially but never know where to start. i also just signed up for jazz guitar lessons next semester, pretty stoked on it
DrZoidbergWho does piano well for jazz? I had a bunch of songs I liked saved on grooveshark but the feds nuked that site and I lost it all. I've been trying to get better at improv and I'd like to get better at jazzy sounding improv. Thinking about slower or mid tempo stuff.

saskskierCheck out Bill Evans. Phenomenal jazz pianist who had his own trio, but also played with Miles Davis and a bunch of others.
