So you would want other ski prep accessories with it? (like a scraper, brush, screwdriver)

As somebody who started a business group focused on waxing and tuning at a school made up of lots of skiers and boarders in vermont I worked on a total of 80+ pairs and boards during first semester. Lots of the customers wanted to have their under foots detuned for the park and i only had a stone and that was easy.

I realized that buying all the tools for the base and edges was veryyyy expensive especially due to the fact that everything needs to be purchased separately.

Having one tool that anybody can purchase to do everything from brushing the base to edges and scraping would be a huge help because if you think about it only dakine has a kit out there that has all the tools that are needed to accomplish this.

I think having something to carry in your pocket like the idea for a swiss like pocket knife would be a game changer for many people who do not want to spend tons of money to go to the shop to get their skis tuned would be HUGE! You could literally keep it in your bag or pocket and go to the hill with it and would take no time also from a marketing aspect it would change the game for all those out there from young to old who want to work on their skis and board.

Just an idea.

What if I had a multitool the size of a stick of butter that had a tuner, detuner, scraper and brush?

is that more appealing than a straight up detuner? how much would you expect to pay for either?

I would pay max $60 for that, maybe 70

If it simply was just a edge rounder (Detuner) I would pay like 20-25 bucks. My only concern would be how much of the edge it actually takes off, I like the gummy stones Cus they don't take off a whole lot compared to something more abrasive like a file. I think you you have a good idea going here and it could do well with people who ride a ton of rails.

Yes I would go a multi tool then some variations. As for the multi tool I would definately go scraper and then a brass brush, and then If brass is too much more expensive maybe a just plastic brush . But I personally like brass Cus it works better for getting that good base structure.

That's what we were thinking, a brush + scraper tool as well for fast waxing when it's suddenly hot and you're sticking to the snow.

When it comes to rounding out your edge, I'll spend $1 on a sanding sponge or simply use a file that I already own, you really don't need a precision tool if your main goal is to dull your edge. With that said, I've met plenty of people who don't know how to de-tune edges even if you explain it to them. That is probably why shops get enough requests to do it.

When it comes to people who will buy the product it will be people who already know what they are doing, or at least have an idea.

Those who know what they are doing will opt for the cheap method.

Those who don't could probably be sold a marked up sanding sponge branded as an "edge de-tuner", but they probably wouldn't fall for it a second time.

I don't really think there is a hole in the market that needs to be filled, unless you take the advice of others and switch to simply combo tools. I'd also just leave out the de-tuner as an add on as most people realize any included file can be used to de-tune an edge.

So price is definitely a concern, that's one of our key elements in making this tool (low cost).
