lcoopmanI have a Sony a 65 and I have a Sony a77ii coming. I've tried the a7 and its a great camera. Definitely go Sony. Also Nikon uses Sony sensors
cdipHeres my choice. Sony a7 with 28-70mm or Nikon d5500 with 14mm. 14mm just looks so wide and nice would be perfect for skiing..
lcoopmanAngle of View (degrees, Hoizontal) 35mm
"full frame" Canon APS-C "crop"
Normal lens 39.6 50mm 31.3mm
Normal-wide 54.4 35mm 21.8mm
Wide 65.5 28mm 17.5 mm
Very wide 73.7 24mm 15mm
Super wide 84 20mm 12.5 mm
Ultra wide 96.7 16mm 10mm
28mm of the a7 woud be eqivilent to 17.5mm on the d5500
Hope this helps a little?
cdipThanks! Should I go for this or get the kit lens?

lcoopmanThat 14mm lens would be the widest you could get on a full-frame without vignetting. I would suggest this lens if you have the money:

you can also get a adapter from the a7's sony FE mount to the sony A mount (which has way more lenses).
lcoopmanIf I were you I would get the kit lens.
Take a look at this video with some wide angle lenses:

Its really up to you if your wanting to do close up shots (urban, skateboarding), and want that distorted look then get the samyang, or rokininon 14mm fisheye.
cdipI'm thinking of follow cam shots of jumps etc and also just shots of wildlife like rivers skies etc. man this is a hard decision. I might go with the kit because offers nice zoom but the 14mm just looks so wide and nice
lcoopmanAlso if your bad at shooting manual focus, I think the 14 mm only has manual focus.
cdipWhat would you recommend for 100% skiing action shots
lcoopmanI would say the 14mm if your good at manual focus...
cdipThis is my fist dslr I've always used auto. I think I'm gonna grab the kit lens. But I feel like the 14 would give a more cinematic feel
lcoopmanYeah, since this is your first dslr, I would ease your way into lenses first figure out what focal length (mm) works best for you and base lenses around that.
I can tell you that a lens will make a lot of difference in the sharpness of your shots.
Do research of different angles, setting, etc.
Your making a big starting jump to a fullframe!

nutz.dude you never use autofocus for video (unless it's to establish/check). Especially for glidecam work that he's talking about.
you don't have to be good at manual focus, but if you're really interested in doing video and getting into cinematography I'd definitely suggest getting started learning how to pull focus (on a glidecam, focus at infinity and let er rip.)
cdipI researched canon than changed my mind to Nikon now I'm going Sony hahaha. I need to know more about lenses though. Which is sharper and more quality? I think that will be my finally decision
lcoopmanPretty much the more expensive lenses are typically more sharp. Do your re search. I have a few tamron lenses and they are pretty sharp (not sure if they make FE mount lenses). If you save up money I would buy the sony vario lenses.
Also shooting videos with the correct white balance, and correct aperture (f) will help with sharpness.
cdipI didn't think you used it but he made it seem like you did. So 14 or kit ?? Lol!
nutz.I'd get the a7 with the kit lens. the 14mm bower/rokinon/samyang lens has god awful distortion and if you're on a cropped sensor camera (which the nikon is), the 11-16 tokina is better in every way.
ski.the.eastif all you care about is video definitely make sure you get the a7S not the a7....worth every penny

nutz.there's a price difference of about a grand+more (double) lol, some people can't afford to spend that kind of dough dude.
ski.the.eastI didnt get mine here so idk how legit this is but if its somehow true I wish I used this link

ski.the.eastpeep the link I just posted
nutz.never buy from abesofmaine lol.
look at reviews of the store, it's a bait and switch store.
most of what they sell are grey market (hence import model. lol, they try and make it sound like it's a good thing) (you won't have us warranty) and half the people who order stuff never get their stuff for months, till they end up being frustrated and cancelling their orders on their own.
0/10 never buy from them.

cdipI'm not getting the Nikon. I'm asking 14mm bower or kit lens on Sony? I just like the wide angle...
NMMediaSony is the shit for video. Ive looked at getting the a7 before but I don't have the money required (still running an a65).
