Why is it such an important part of society? It seems as if everything revolves around drinking.
I think chocolate milk is pretty cool. Why don't bars have chocolate milk on tap?
What makes it cool/popular?
I don't think you're lame if you don't drink, or abstain from anything else. I do think the people that get too into "Im proud of not doing this or that" and judging the people that are doing it can be lame though.
I don't care if you drink, I don't care if do. I judge people based on their actions. There are super cool people that drink, and huge douches, same with sober people. Some of my best friends are sober whether from choice earlier on, or wanting to make a change mid way through life.
One of the big things with drinking other than people simply unwinding is the social aspect. IT's easier for people to be themselves when drunk or even under the perceived notion of being drunk.
Dolphous Raymond in To Kill A Mockingbird drinks coke from a paper bag to pretend he's drunk so he can feel comfortable living his life being seen as a drunk instead of catching hate for embracing people of other races.
People feel like they can be who they are, tell people what they really want to say, etc. Even without the intoxication that perception of someone being drunk can be enough to make them feel comfortable in life.
Think about it. If someone does something kind of fucked up and they're drunk, it's sort of a right off. If they did that same thing they're just an idiot or a loser.
As far as chocolate milk, it doesn't have the same allure because it lacks the intoxicates properties of alcohol. I know you understand this, but that's really all it's about.
Basically, people have been getting fucked up on anything and everything since the beginning. All throughout the world, throughout history, even disconnected tribes have some way to get intoxicated.
Some people chew plants, drink wine, eat mushrooms, all kinds of stuff. I'm not saying you should drink, or smoke weed, but I don't see why you feel the need to look down on them as lesser people as if you're somehow better than them for not indulging.
Idk how old you are, if you're young it really isn't advisable to drink/do drugs especially binge out on them regularly. That said to each their own.
Maybe you're from one of those small towns where all people do is get fucked up, drive around, and make an ass out of themselves. That said their are plenty of people drinking and using drugs responsibility.
It's all about personal choice man. If you never touch a beer in your life that's great, but if you have a couple beers later in life that's fine as well.
Just don't be a douche, live it up as best you can, and you will never be lame IMO.
