Operation Newschoolers in space

Im a studying aerospace major contemplating buying a weather ballon, camera and gear to track it down...

If Newschoolers or its community would be willing to help me make this happen I would like to put something on the ballon From NS maybe a NS sticker in front of the camera or something else small.

This thread is just for your ideas and thoughts.
If you don't know what I'm talking about here is an example, but with beer.

heres an idea on pricing,

1000g Ballon- $100

Tracking device-$100

Helium - $150

Go pro (used from here)- $50

total-$400

Newschoolers in space ... Priceless

I am also in Aerospace, we did this in one of my classes, it was pretty cool. I would pay to see the llama head in space. We would also need clearance from the FAA, I have no idea how to do that, but I am glad to help in any way. I can finally put my three years of school to work.

Ya ill look into that, Im rather ignorant to the process of getting approved so if this idea catches some traction your help will be useful thanks.

We should send a NSer to space to find the aliens and then give them ski stuff so they can enjoy it too. Not sure on who to send should be someone who would have some super funny stories of space adventures.

the videos/photos would be used for advertising clearly so bishop or someone that can make those decisions should hop in here.

there is always the possibility of not finding it so just so everyones aware but i will make a video of it on the ground and the launch with my DSLR for prof just incase ( if i can get approval). It would be better if i simply bought one from someone on the cheap here so no one would loose anything if we couldn't find it. Ill start looking into kickstarter and FAA regulations later today.

invest a bit more into it and have a chute that opens at 1000 feet or something to slow it down a bunch. I'd imagine it wouldn't be good PR for NS if a camera and llama head fell on and killed someone. or just do it in Saskatchewan.

That could be integrated with a bit of work but it would also up the cost ( Would have to buy a flight computer) . I planned on making the Chute and it being suspended from the bottom of the ballon as most people do, I have a bit of experience with parachutes and i believe that would be the best way.

I would like to see this done, however wouldn't be able to donate much. If the llama head is too big you could always just do a picture of tom pretzeling on an actual pretzel. I think someone actually did a photoshop of tom pretzeling a pretzel on NS. You could send up a print out of that picture. I guess a printout of the llama head would work too if the llama head is a more popular choice.

If you want to do it just do it. It's not something that hasn't been done or that people haven't thought of. IF you don't want to spend any money then don't do it.

Why would I give you money to do it when I could just do it myself?

Talk to your school or something and maybe they can give you a few bucks.

Update , so Bishop brushed me off by not responding to emails. So I went ahead and did a launch to 110000 feet for an add for another company. Opp NS in space is no more.
