Do you know who Jonah Williams is?

So I know who he is. Knew who he was before the contest (he won superunknown for those who are lost).

Anyway, I know there's been discussions about how these people aren't "unknown" since we get on NS everyday and are connected with the community. I think he deserves it, and outside of NS, no one really knew who he was, so this is good for him. But what I want to know, was Jonah unknown to any of us on NS? There were some people in the contest I've never heard of but when I heard Jonah and Dylan's name I thought "aren't those guys pros" then I remembered how the ski industry works. He's been in some SLVSH episodes and such. How unknown are these guys to you?

He's sponsored by saga, salomon, stash, and Dragon. He also has the main segment in Soul Ryder's Productions movie this year. So I wouldn't consider him unknown.

Not to bash on him, but I'd rather see people who don't have any at least major sponsors win.

He is still a great, talented skier that is definitely deserving. But I'd guess that he is already doing well from his sponsors.

BenFeldmanHe's sponsored by saga, salomon, stash, and Dragon. He also has the main segment in Soul Ryder's Productions movie this year. So I wouldn't consider him unknown.

Not to bash on him, but I'd rather see people who don't have any at least major sponsors win.

He is still a great, talented skier that is definitely deserving. But I'd guess that he is already doing well from his sponsors.


You guys are all forgetting that we frequent a website that is full of the 'unknown' skiers.

As someone else said before, Tom Wallisch, Simon Dumont, Nick Goepper and "known" pros to the general public. Our forum community represents a fraction of the traffic on NS and that traffic represents a fraction of the ski demographic.

You guys need to realize that if you come on ns more than once a week, post on the forums, watch videos etc no one will ever seem 'unknown' to you.

Also, please stop listing sponsors as a vaild argument for someone being 'pro' a big company can sponsor a small skier (ie salomon) and they are no where near the same level of sponsorship as say bobby brown. Just because salomon sponsors top level pro skiers, doesn't mean every skier on salomon is a top level pro. Get what im saying?

i mean, i check this site all the damn time and i didnt know jonah's name til this contest. you'll hardly ever find me defending L1P but i dont understand this thread

Thank you, hopefully some of these guys can understand whats going on here. Everyone is generalizing that because they know of some skier, everyone else does, its a slippery slope.

Salomon and Dragon give products and 'sponsor' a metric fuck ton of skiers. Not everyone who gets skis from Salomon is on the same contract as Bobby Brown. Neither you nor me have ever heard of most of them before.

And just who the fuck is Soul Ryder's Productions. Never fucking heard of them either.

Yeah actually this is a great point - When Tom won superunknown way back in the day, he was already a Newschoolers legend.

We are a platform for less known talent to get out there, so people who have been killing it for years on here may not have mainstream hype.

Also - you're right that the listing of sponsors isn't valid. See my previous comment about the various levels of teams... its incredibly common to have head-to-toe free product from a mixture of localrep/shop/flow sponsors yet still not be on any pro teams.

You do make a great point. I am very active on NS and I do watch a lot of skiing videos ( I like to film too), so to me Jonah Williams is a "Known" skier. I do see your point though. I think that whether you consider him "known" or not, we can both agree that he deserved to win SuperUnknown.
