Do you know who Jonah Williams is?

So I know who he is. Knew who he was before the contest (he won superunknown for those who are lost).

Anyway, I know there's been discussions about how these people aren't "unknown" since we get on NS everyday and are connected with the community. I think he deserves it, and outside of NS, no one really knew who he was, so this is good for him. But what I want to know, was Jonah unknown to any of us on NS? There were some people in the contest I've never heard of but when I heard Jonah and Dylan's name I thought "aren't those guys pros" then I remembered how the ski industry works. He's been in some SLVSH episodes and such. How unknown are these guys to you?

Urban skiers are a dime a dozen. I just want to see Siggers throw bangers in a BC edit. That being said, Jonah is a style machine and has realy own been in the NS spotlight for a season now.

Last year; perfect example. Whipple submitted his entry and every nser got but hurt he didn't make it to the finals. He fucking kills it but I think he has a lot more potential and a lot more going for him through sponsors compared to most the riders.

People who attempt urban/ski park at a dime a dozen but a 'good' urban skier is much less common and then a video seg worth urban skier is rare.

Superunknown hasn't been very 'unknown' for years, thats just the nature of the internet and the way technology has evolved.

Also consider if you're posting on ns you probably come on here often and of course you know who every good up and coming skier is, people who dont come on ns alot probably dont.

Though people know him or not, I think we all or most of us would have known him eventually. I don't believe he needed to be in super unknown because he spits enough fire to be on the radar without super unknown. I think it was a waste of a year to have someone win who companies and a bunch of people are familiar with. I think Siggers or Alec Nelson or Ben should have one. After all, they actually are truly super unknown. Props to him though, still love him as a skier

saw Jonah filming an edit at hood and Was on Ns a month later and say the edit released. Thats when I connected the dots and looked up a bunch of his other shit.

This argument is flawed, "would have know him eventually" what does that even mean? Anyone can become unknown with the internet. Superunknown isn't about being unknown, its about bringing the 10 best up and comers and having them shred together and choose who was the best. Johan is a perfect example of this.


Also, side note, the only reason everyone posting knows about johan is because of saga and NS. Anyone outside of this community probably has never heard of his name and there are ALOT of people who buy l1p movies/follow l1p that dont go on ns.

Level 1 should change the name to Super Unknown-To-Non-Ski-Nerds.

Tom Wallisch is a known name. Simon Dumont is known. Shey Flynn is fairly known. In comparison, Jonah Williams is unknown.

I didn't know who he was but that's just because I don't follow the park/urban scene really at all or watch too many edits. The only people I knew of in this comp were Hank (and that's cause I met him right before) and Siggers.

As far as Siggers goes, I've know who he was since maybe 2-3 years ago, but that's just because I found him though some off chance mountain bike edit and quickly realized he was going places. I would still consider him a perfect "superunknown" candidate because he hasn't appeared in any films/had as much "mainstream" success.

That said I'm stoked to see what all of these guys go on to do. I think the event coverage from this year's contest made it much more relatable to me and actually made me care about it for once

he's appeared in what ? 2 windells edit and 2 games of slvsh ?

having the l1 exposure is going to be good for him and I'm stoked because he's dope and I can't wait to see what he can do with level1

I only heard of him because my friend in PC knows him but still think he deserves it. Im pysched for Jonah, Ben Smith and Ethan Swadburg! Theyre all on the radar now and have earned it.

I saw Jonah at newschoolers windells week last summer and thought he was already pro as he is pretty hooked up sponsor wise and goes to contests and friends with the pros

Biggest misconception in skiing right now.

Just because someone 'looks hooked up' and is friends with pros, etc doesn't mean they make a living off of skiing. Jonah doesn't make a dime off of skiing, pays for all of his own trips, etc. You guys should really take a look at who you think is 'pro' and maybe not just assume they're getting so hooked up cause you saw a couple videos of them and they were at windells one session.

i was with Keefer at windells and ended up hanging out and taking alot of runs with Jonah, and it really did seem like he was being paying and sponsored, so my bad on that

To be honest, I thought he was more known than he is. Why? Because of his sponsors. Not a good thing to base it off of, but Salomon is a prett big company. I just thought seeing bobby brown and countless others on the salomon skis I just thought Jonah was "one of those guys" I don't know. When you get on NS all the time you lose sight of those things.

I still think Jonah deserves it and he still kills it too. Good opinions on this thread.

i thought this because of how big his spansars are like saga, salomon, etc. also how he was coaching at windells and friends with pretty much all of the pros there, which implied to me that he was pro, and i had the impression that he travels to pro contests and the fact he was relatively known.

I didn't really agree with level 1's decision. Jonah might have thrown down, and even been the best park skier at the shoot, but I don't really see him as a big filmer. There were so many fire urban parts in all of the finalist edits, and I'm just surprised level 1 didn't want more of a stylish, creative urban or bc guy rather than a really good park skier, which seem so common today. I just can't see Jonah standing out in a level 1 movie is all I am saying

If so, doesn't really give pow skiers much of a chance against park skiers at a park shoot. Would have been cool to see Dylan Siggers take it. Jonah is sick though so props to him for taking it.

You guys make it seem like brogan or ahmet werent known when they won it back in the day. The first time i ever heard of his name was in that slvsh game.


Its not like hes a fucking superstar in skiing. To be completely honest ive never heard of any of the finalists before the edits dropped. Like saga posted its his break out season, obviously hes going to have sponsorships and make it to big contests.


Fuck you guys. All kids do on this site is complain about everything that happens in skiing.

The 10 riders vote for each other based on the park shoot.

I almost want to guarantee Siggers will be invited on a pow trip next winter. Tons of L1 athletes didn't win superunknown, it's not the only way in the gate.

It was actually rider voted, so Jonah was a complete consensus amongst everyone there and not just Level 1 or media.

Honestly you weren't there. He was destroying the place and was extremely consistent. One thing that sets people apart from their edits they submitted is how consistent they can be when the cameras roll.

Just looking at an edit is ok - but in the real world of shooting you have to hit the tricks quickly and consistently. Drones have limited batteries, there's limited light, limited hours in a day, etc.

This contest has a finals because it is about more than just an online video comp. it's about finding an athlete that is ready to film with Level 1 - and how they act at a shoot is a really important element of that.

Im excited to see him hit some urban and bc with the big dogs. He really is just so consistent and his style/tricks are on point, makes sense why level 1 picked him once you seem him ski for a day.

Jonah Williams had a pretty big season this year. Considering he appeared on slvsh (I think twice?). I personally feel he was a little to known to be in this contest, let alone win.
