Advice on Road Trippin - San Diego to Red Rocks

buttrapinpirateLooking for some advice from anyone who's been through that area, my friend and I are gonna spend like four days going from San Diego to Red Rocks in Colorado to see Odesza late may. We wanna car camp the whole way and do some cool hikes. Zion National Park, San Isabel and Pike are piquing our interest. Any cool hikes or cliff jumping/ swimming in that area would be a major bonus. I really don't care about the extra mileage if I have to take some random highway instead of a straight path there. Pretty open at this point, with the exception that I can't do any gnarly off roading in my A4.

Spark notes; wanna car camp through some national parks in the southwest region, cliff jumping would be neato.

not Much cliff jumping out here once you get to colorado... if you want to jump id look for areas closer to California... have fun dude theres a lot to see on that trip

I would suggest stopping in Moab if your into biking or hiking, hell even if your not id still go views are amazing!

check out goblin valley in utah. it's a state park, but if you keep heading down the road instead of turning left onto the state park land you can drive up on a dirt road and camp in this fuckin tight, colorful, desert swell. also great sand dunes in southern colorado if your route takes you that way. i saw odesza in boulder a month ago or so and it was fuckin tight and red rocks is spectacular, have a blast.

Also does anyone know of just some cool creeks or rivers along the way with any interesting pools etc? Kind of a sucker for water photography too

Ya honestly you just drive on that dirt road and should be able to pull over wherever there's a space and post up, that's what I did. I think it's all blm land.

Don't hesitate to ditch your national park things for dope shit you drive by along the way. You're going to go by so much rad BLM and national forest land along the way. They're always empty crowd wise compared to national parks, there are hardly any rules so you can do whatever the fuck you want, and if you look in the right spots they're just as beautiful.

Sedona, Arizona if you're going that way. It's beautiful and there's this super cool restaurant called the ChocolaTree. if you go, eat outside. it's got this hammock and a stage you can sit on and those scarf things that gymnasts flip upside down on...it's super great. and the food is amazing.

Page AZ. Rent a boat at the Lake Powell marina and go up the lake. If you want to cliff dive, it's the mecca in the western US. Just keep going up the lake, and you'll find what you want. Check the water depth before killing yourself.

Mesa Verde in SW CO is interesting. Lots of backpacking all over the four corners area. Black canyon of the Gunnison offers all kinds of climbing and camping. Glenwood springs is a hot spring pool, no diving, same with Mt Princeton hot springs.

If you want it on your resume, you can climb one of the 14ers(over 14,000') in CO. Go to 14ers dot com to find which are easiest to climb. Hell, you can drive up Pikes Peak east of Co Springs. Also around the Springs are Garden of the Gods, and if you go back east on hwy 24 you can raft down the Arkansas river, it's a blast in spring with lots of water. Royal Gorge is nice to see also.

It's Odesza, Chromeo, Classixx, and Cashmere Cat. We wanted to see them, and decided to make a road trip out of it. Normally a little weird yeah, but we've wanted to just travel around the southwest region, this gave us an excuse.

I think you may have influenced some decisions. Unfortunately I can't do the Powell thing though haha. I wish. Been three times now though and it never gets old.

I would definitely stop by moab. Its right by arches so you can go hang out in there, which is pretty incredible by the way. There are a ton of river rafting services in town that will take you down the colorado through some pretty fun rapids for not too expensive. And one of my favorite things to do there is the mill creek waterfall in that map. Its a nice mellow hike next to a river with gorgeous views and half way up there is some petroglyphs you an check out. And the actual waterfall is so much fun. The pool is the perfect temperature and amazing to swim in. And if its deep enough its a pretty fun place to jump.
