Is NSG dead?

I remember when I joined in like 2012, when I was in 8th grade, and NSG was a vibrant and beautiful place. There were funny posts, a ton of members on all the time, and endless memes. Then Something happened and NSG went soft. All I see now are reposts of threads about "social injustice" and netflix. I don't know what happened but I miss it.

I think what you're seeing OP is one results of the wider push to 'professionalise' newschoolers. There was a point when the site has two paths down which it could go. A number of members wanted to see newschoolers become another half arsed imitation of 4chan. However the NS team wanted to see the see the site become a legitimate member driven ski media outlet rather than just another shitty internet backwater; and they have certainly come a long way to acheiving that.

There were a number of members who want to the see the site become another half arsed imitation of 4chan. The NS team on the other wanted to turn newschoolers into legitimate member driven ski media outlet rather than just a shitty internet backwater; and they certainly have come a long way to acheiving that.

Been around for 12 years, which I think I'm part of a solid group of members who have been around for more than a decade. NSG used to be shit, was full of troll threads which at the time was hilarious. Then most of the people grew up and NS went in a "professional" direction and weeded out the mega shit heads.



I lost my train of thought on this post because I just realized OP said he was in 8th grade in 2012. I feel old.

NSG has only improved since the stricter moderation. All the dumb shit is gone and the actually interesting stuff is left over. If you want a place to go be weird go to 4chan or something.

It's just a law of Physics that the perceived quality of NSG drops from when you first joined. This is because when you first found NS it was new and exciting, but now you have read all of the classic threads, and gotten wise to all of the shitty trolls.

People in 2012, were talking about how great it was in 09, people in 09 wished for the NSG of 06 back, and on and on, you get the point.

Many people will disagree with me on this, but ever since the mods cracked down on nsg and the trolls and constantly kept banning them (ex. SFB being banned for a month, Frenchy being banned every other week) NSG is not fun anymore. To be honest, i used to go on nsg every day, now it's lucky if I even go on once a month. I mainly just use ns now to watch videos. That's it.

That's pretty much it. NSG when I joined was weird. That made it fun. If it's weird now it certainly isn't in a good way.

Like seriously, half the time I browse NSG I'm asking myself why I bother. It wasn't like that 18 months ago. Now I only come on here because I've met some really cool people and I still wanna interact with them.

Yeh there was some good content that came out of the site every so often, but you had to look for it, and they site really set up to showcase member submitted content. However there has been a drive from NS team make more of newschoolers, hence the big push on content teams, and the new homepage layout etc.

If it's so prrroooooo let's get some fucking statistics
1. Average number of threads made in a day
2. Average number of new threads that receive more than x views in x time.... X replies in x time
3. Average number of times a user checks nsg a day
4. Number of members that nsg in a day
5. Number of political/ethical bs threads made in a day
6. Number of members banned per week, month
Compare that shit to years past and we will have quantifiable data....

or just trust older members - same shit, different day

The head honchos wanted to take the site in a more professional direction, and it shows. They've pared down a lot of the excess junk in NSG that made it fun. Summer on NSG used to be some of the best times

Hopefully they'll come around and realize that we shouldn't lose sight of what NS started as, a bunch of stupid teenagers doing dumb shit on the Internet. That's what made it so fun. In the words of level 1: "do less"

The people with moderator access are lame but as with all internet forums kiss enough ass and befriend moderators and eventually you might become one.

They could fix it by taking away moderator access from most of the mods but that isn't going to happen (those people would all stop posting too if they lost their status symbol on a chatroom and some power and could no longer ban people.)

Whatever Mr Bishop or whoever would probably rather lose traffic and money and have this website suck than have to devastate friends of his he has come to know by removing their moderator powers but that would make this place better imemdiately and it would be awesome to see the butthurt on some of these folks!

(Id love to see Dingosean lose his moderator status since he bans people who disagree with him and deletes any post that makes his argument look stupid.)
