Core shot, blown out edge, rust=new skis?

Not sure if I need to get new skis.

I don't really want to spend money on new skis. I have had my skis for 110 days with the Marker Schizo Squires. Gasp! It's my first and current ski but everything is more or less intact,

So my question is rust bad? The edge is covered with rust but I can still see the original silvery edge. I can't remove, I'ave used all the chemicals I have.

What about a blown out edge? Will the water causes structural damage in the ski?

And is a core shot bad? I can see the teeth of the metal edge and there's rust on it.



Should I just keep my Volkl Bridges for a summer setup and get new skis. +k to quality answers

I guess you could keep riding them, but they would keep getting worse. This happened to me and my afterbangs. Pic would help tho.

If you have the money to throw around might as well get a new pair. But I'm sure you can keep riding them, there are tons of threads that give tutorials on fixing all those things here and on the internet in general just do some searching. Pics would help a lot to

If you aren't skiing often I'd clean your edges after use. I haven't had a problem with anything rusting in years but I'm using them almost every day all winter.

You could easily take that off with a file, gummy stone even.

For me I just get jenky and bend it back, weld it together, fill the inside with epoxy or ptex.


As far as your core shot, fill it with epoxy or ptex. ptex is an easy fix but some places it might not stay as well. You can get a ptex candle from your local shop for like 1$. Or buy some epoxy at a hardware store for pretty cheap as well.

So to answer your question it's up to you. Lot's of people on here ride gear even after edges are fucked, bases are fucked etc. If you have loot for new skis and want to buy a pair it's not going to hurt, but if you're on a tight budget you could most likely make them work for a while.

Thanks for the replies.

For the p-tex, I have filled it in at least three times but it keeps on getting ripped out. I'm kinda tight on money, so I'll probably keep my skis.

The ptex candles only bond to ptex. So if you need your ptex to bond to something else like say your exposed core, then you need to use something like this: http://www.tognar.com/metalgrip-repair-string-copolymer/

P-tex repair material by itself does not bond well to steel, aluminum, wood, or fiberglass...so if you get a deep gouges that expose core material, or are along steel edges, it won't stay in place.

Metalgrip string is a mix of polyethylene and heat-sensitive adhesive which is melted using our P-Tex Base Repair Iron into core-shot gouges or along steel edges.

Metalgrip is softer than pure P-Tex repair material, for best results apply a thin layer of Metal grip, allow it to cool, then apply a layer of P-Tex String or P-Tex Repair Ribbon over the top. This will increase the durability and longevity of your repair.
