Longboard sliding

Always wanted to learn how to but when i try the wheel just stops and I fall forward.
I've seen slide gloves but do I really need them when just starting or small slides?

You gotta really lean back and kick your back foot out. When you stop in skiing you're leaning back and have your front edges up. If you don't, you'll catch and fall forward. So when you're trying to slide try to think about it like that, you gotta get back on your board so you don't bite. It's easier to put a hand down to slide which you do need gloves for unless you want to rip up your hands to the bone. The easiest slide I would say are coleman's. You crouch down on your board, use your back hand to grab your board, put your front hand down behind you, and kick your back leg out to slide.

Your best bet is to Colman slide, you drag your down hill arm and kind of lay down and kick out your back foot. Then you should transition those into standup heel slides and so on. There are 100s of videos on YouTube on how to Coleman and stand up slide to the point where these no point in even embedding them

I mean you should probably learn to standup slide. If you look at the best racers they just stand up slide around turns. Hands down slides are fun too.

If you're a long time skateboarder than longboarding would be easy as hell for you. I know a few, and they're like lol, longboarders think reverts and powerslides are hard. Plus they can back their words and stand up slide and do all that no problem.

I'm still in the learning stage for any kind of skateboarding I'm trying to learn a little bit of everything to see what I like best.
(PS: I am comfortable skating/cruising around)

harder wheels help too. if you have soft wheels its going to be more difficult to slide. and on a side note, wear a helmet. its too easy to catch and hit your head while sliding

How much speed do I need, can I just do a few pushes on flat ground or do I need downhill speed?

If you have wheels with a high duro, rounded lips, small contact patch, stoneground finish, etc (freeride wheels) you should be able to get around some small stuff with very little speed. Messing around towards the end of a run I go really slow and mess around but the more speed you have the easier the wheels will give out and of course you will go further. Also I'd say start off with push up slides and colemans I learned them first.

I long boarded when I was in middle school and it was all the hype, I wish I was still into it, but sitting in a air conditioned car to get from point A to point B is so much nicer, anyways, I would use sliding gloves it was very useful, later on I just used my bare hands mainly because I felt like a bad ass and thats pretty much the only reason, I used to be able to do 180s too, I couldn't give you any tips for I have lost all my wisdom. But I would recommend slide gloves actually I could sell you mine, they are not in the best condition but it would be somewhere to start.

You arent going fast enough and not kicking out. Coleman slides are super easy....just gotta fall a couple times to start getting it.
