As cool as all these tech tricks are, where's the style going :'( Haha, I hope its a while before we start seeing these. Not sure the comp scene is ready for it. I personally prefer the comps that limit your spins and stuff anyway to promote more creativity, but hey thats just me.

I knew it would be done, but I feel it's more of a stunt than a trick. I can't imagine mountains are going to make jumps big enough to do it in a comp. How big is that thing?

Yep, came here to post this but looks like you beat me (and some others probably) to it. Either way this shit is insane and I'm sure one will be thrown at a comp within in the next 3 years. I can't wrap my head around how fast skiing and snowboarding are accelerating in progression. Trips are still a new thing and now quads are on the very near horizon

Definitely cool to see and is gnarly as hell, but at the same time it doesn't really impress me as hard as it is, it's literally just tucking for one more flip, yeah it's ballsy but where's the creativity, anything passed double just losses my interest cause there's no style or creativity involved it's just hucking and hoping for the best. If I wanted to watch triples and quads I would just watch some aerials. May I also remind all of these videos.

Basically what I'm saying is snowboardings behind the times and if you want to do a quad just get a big jump, grow some balls and tuck until you land. Skiers figured this out 41 years ago and snowboarders are just catching on. This basically sums up my unimpression with quads in snowboarding and park skiing

P.S. this is still gnarly as shit don't get me wrong but in my opinion if you have balls and a big jump as well as some air awareness anyone can huck a quad, I wouldn't doubt it if 5 or 6 flips start happening soon, hell snowboarding may finally join arials lol.

It won't become a comp thing because realistically there will not be more than a handful of people capable of doing them. i mean x-games big air had tons of triples, and almost everyone took a hard slam at some point. There is a limit to what the body can take, and most people will not be willing to take the risk of adding another rotation. Sure some will, but most won't.

^ it's litterally all about jump size people won't do it in comp until comps start building 100' plus booters in a slopestyle course and if people do do them they're gonna be sloppy as fuck, which doesn't appeal to me even if it is a quad.

I dunno if a skier could do it on that jump, snowboarders can definitely spin/flip faster. I'd hope no skier would try it just out of spite, but its clearly possible.

Yeah, cool to do it for a Redbull "Hey I can do this" campaign, but comp-wise I really hope things go back to flat out style.

The X-games big-air huckfest was stupid with the exception of Vinni Cash, but I guess "big air" is huckfest event. You'd hope slope style just doesn't become "whoever throws both way quads" wins.

especially for spinning, a skier has the freedom to change how wide their feet are, the way you can speed up your spin in a desk chair by tucking your arms in

as for flipping, i see no reason a snowboarder could flip faster. i'd think the two sports are on very equal footing there

regardless, that was nuts. im all for people trying whatever they want-- we have no lack of people going different routes with their skiing

and it's funny to hear people say stuff like "i wish we only did singles and doubles, because style" when 10 years ago people said the same thing to nay say doubles. not that the difference between singles and dubs is the same as between dubs trips quads.... but we are blinded by what we know and think is possible. interesting to think about

Snowboarders definitely flip faster. they don't spin faster though. It's still a huge deal in snowboarding when somebody does a 1620, when they've been doing triples for years. I think it has to do with them being all in one piece instead of having two separate skis, they're more compact, but they also can't set a spin off of two edges like skiers can.

If you want proof look at the jumps snowboarders have done triples off of, then compare that to the size it takes for a skier to triple.

yeah im pondering more than arguing. i just don't see what would let a snowboarder flip faster. i agree that they have done them on smaller jumps but that doesn't necessarily mean physics wise they can flip faster

we need a really good professional physicist that understands these sports to chime in, that'd be sick. i always think about the stuff that skiers and snowboarders have figured out empirically that the scientists could elucidate for us with math

Think about it, snowboards are usually shorter than most skis we use. (178~190)

I mean, anyone would agree with me, snowboards CAN flip faster, its just true. They do triples on jumps that skiers can do them on, i.e. xgames a couple years ago. McMorris did trip on the last jump and skiers couldn't, they had the ability the jump just wasnt big enough.

Feel free to express your opinion, but its an objective matter, they can spin/flip faster.

It's not that they can flip faster in the air, it's that they can initiate the flip much faster. If you carve really hard on your toe edge you can get 45 degrees of that first flip easily before you leave the ground. Skiers rely on setting their trick off of the pop, as opposed to setting and popping simultaneously.

Ps: I have no idea if that makes sense to anyone but me

Seems to me that merely from the element of extra weight on a skier's feet (boots and skis vs. snowboard gear), you're going to make the flipping portion that much harder. Put weight on the end of anything and it takes more force to make it flip around. Couple that with the length of skis, and you're adding increased wind resistance that are also fighting the rotation. Try spinning/flipping on snowlerblades sometime. It's easy as hell. And when you get in the air, you feel like you're just a body flying. The less weight at the end of your body, the faster it rotates.
