NS, Help me with my skateboard!

Hey guys!

I've recently started skateboarding with an old skateboard I own, and I love it! My friend has as well, and here is my problem.

My friend is using his brother's skateboard. It's a legit skateboard, an element deck. Anyways, his board is a lot popier and trickable it seems, but skinny and just rides different. My skateboard rides like a dream, but I think it's because his is really beat up.

I'm thinking of buying a new deck, or new wheels, or a new board all together! I don't know what I should do. Here's my board, let's see if you guys can figure this out


It's 31in long and 8in wide.



It has metal trucks, and the bearings will roll for a while


It's concave, and seems like it has longboard wheels?



"Well gee OP, why don't you search that link?" I've tried, it seems the website is gone. I've googled Oogaboogainc, oogaboogainc.com, oogabooga, OBI, OBI2000, ect ect.... I can't find a single thing about this board! It's like, some obscure company made it and then went out of business. The board, I should mention, is kinda old I think.

I love this board, but i'm just wondering what it is. Longboard? Street board? Vert? Don't know much about skateboards, anything is appreciated!

I forgot to mention, sorta, that I am looking to possibly make an upgrade to my board, to make it better for skating. Like doing tricks and stuff

I find chocolate decks really poppy, as well as krooked decks. I like an 8.25", but it really depends on your your preference. As for your board riding like a dream, it's because you have some pretty big, presumably soft wheels on it. Nothing wrong with soft wheels, but the bigger they are the higher you will be off the ground, the heavier your board will be, and more force will be required for popping. I prefer hard and small wheels so I can powerslide the shit out of things and have a low profile board. Your trucks look pretty budget, but you can get away with using them until you have money to burn, or the bushings wear out.

TL;DR Its mainly personal preference.

You're just starting. Your deck will snap. Get a mini logo and put the savings into quality trucks and bearings.

Recommend an earthwing, get a 33inch they're also slightly wider which can be nice for bigger feet and going silly fast

I've had the same Bones STF wheels, thunder trucks and reds bearings for years. I'd say it's worth it to spend your money on the highest quality trucks, wheels, hardware etc. out there if you are going to be spending lots of time skating. Less cost in the longrun considering you will be replacing these parts less. As for decks however, I can razortail a new deck every week so I try not to spend a ton on them.

Get a Blank Deck, ex. minilogo.
Get trucks, dons't really matter ex. indys, thunders, ventures
Get cheap wheels, 52mm ex. bones 100's
Get Bones reds bearings.
Get cheapest hardware.
Get cheapest grip tape.

When paired with a 5 panel or bucket hat your skate performance should increase exponentially.

This is solid. Spend a little more on the bearings. Most shops will offer a customize your own board package. Most likely a "pick from this case" type deal. I would venture to say that with tax you're looking at 105 bucks.

They wheels on your current board look like cruisers almost. Tell them you want an 8.0 board... no more no less. Some sales people will try and talk you into a smaller size like a 7.75 to help learn more technical tricks (easier to flip) stick with the 8.0.

Ooga booga Inc is a skateboard and rollerblade rental shop in California. My best guess is that it's a shop deck. It was probably an old rental that got bought or jacked. That would explain the big wheels; most people probably rented them to cruise around cali.

skatewarehouse.com is a very good spot to buy from can build your own complete. I recently got a slave deck with theeve trucks some bones wheels and reds bearings. I am enjoying it a lot so far.

I don't understand how you don't realize that your skateboard only rides like a dream because your wheels are bigger, wider, and softer.....

due to this fact, your board probably weighs quite a bit more than your friends no?

Yeaaaa, I'm not very knowledgable about skateboards. Didn't really occur to me.

His board is a lot lighter. Also waaay popier

Your friends trucks might also be higher set which means you can press the tail down farther while olie'n.

I would take your board and try crazy ass tech slides.

its all personal preference. Just ride whatever size feels the most comfortable for you

like said before preference. I have a USA 9.5 shoe size and ride a 8.5 wide. I suck at street tricks and just ride the bowl and pump around where a wide board feels nice to have.

Oh, that's right! Someone told me that skinny boards are for flip tricks and stuff, while wider ones are more for goin fast.

Just a question. Are there skinny boards with a big amount of concave? My friends board is nearly flat, and it's not as comfortable as my super concave board.

As far as flip tricks on a narrower board you can flip them with ease but its harder to land your feet on the board. I learned on a 7.25" and I could get dub shoves on rare occasion but I felt like I was riding a toothpick. Went to the 8.5" I have now and shoveting take more effort and I can't come close to dub shove anymore but it rides like a boat. I also feel more confidence on vert because there is more space to put my feet on the board and I feel more planted on the board.

I remember seeing a creature deck with a fuck ton of concave but it was a wide board built for vert. But in all honesty just buy a 8" or 8.25" wide blank. I was lucky enough to live about 20 minutes from where supreme was having their decks pressed and got a misprinted one for $10.

Techsliding is some crazy shit. I've been to that spot before and some earthwing riders were just busting out 720s at like 20 mph. Plus with some new wheels his deck does look pretty good for it.

Honestly man I'd go for a whole new setup. I would highly recommend CCS to buy your board from, or even better your local skateshop. It looks to me like your board is pretty heavy, with the longboard wheels not helping. If you're trying to really pop some nice flip tricks then I would go for a deck around 7.75, depending on your side. 7.75 is nice because its skinny and can rotate much quicker than boards 8+. Then after that trucks and wheels aren't going to matter too much, but reds bearings are the way to go. Hope this helps
