Swap to Different Bindings

My buddy broke some FKS bindings, for like the 2nd time. Both times at the heel, is it possible to go to a different binding or will the mounting patterns conflict. Any techs done anything like this where you go from fks to another binding? Thanks in advance.

It can be done, but you might have to move the mounting point around.

Hmmm, that may be an issue, skis are fully symmetrical. I've heard of tech's that can make it work but it depends on which bindings you're going from/to.

My buddy had to get a remount on his fully symmetrical skis. I think he's at -.5 now. Just depends I guess. Any warranty on the FKS?

yea what part keeps breaking? half moons? brakes? im that buddy who got remounted on my rayrzs. long story short, they were mounted for a bigger boot, i downsized without remounting, so im riding just above center. like .5 and cant tell a difference. but as for a whole other binding you might be able to get away with still being at true center, just depends on how the holes line up with the new binding

heck dude, i rode non symetrical skis at +1 to 1.5 and didnt have problems! haha the tails were awfully catchy tho.

1st one had the toe bust loose, and the heel twisted up, like the whole thing turned for one of them, it's weird to explain, 2nd time the hinge point between the the replaced heel piece semi pulled out so there's like, no forward pressure. This plus a 2 sets of broken brakes. That 2nd pair was on warranty which was used on a new pair of skis. Now he's kinda over FKS, had less troubles with other bindings so yeah. I think going back like half a cm would probably work out well, or back up however much can be squeezed, but yeah, for whatever reason that binding just gave him a lot of shit.

Also off topic question what is the camber and flex like on the rayzr skis? They look real fun but flexier skis tend to be boring to carve.

Unless he lucks out, he'll probably have to +/- 1 of where he's currently mounted, I doubt he'll notice a huge difference so it shouldn't be a huge issue.

You can mount Marker Royal bindings (Jester, Griffon) at the exact same point as FKS. 2 of the toe-piece holes line up. The other 2 are maybe a little bit close strictly speaking but they work OK. The heel holes are miles away.
I did the opposite - changed from Jesters to FKS.
This was a couple of years ago now though, unsure if the mounting pattern for the Markers has changed at all in the mean time.

Honestly his plan was to switch to some jester's or jester pro's I forget. I dunno the guy just has bad luck with the swivel heel for whatever reason, thanks!

Oh man, forgot, did the mount point change when you used the same drill holes? like did it move forward or back even a little? That'd be great if you gotta keep the same mount. Thanks a lot btw for letting me know, this makes it wayyy easier to pick bindings.

Mount point didn't change. Both bindings were at centre.

remounting is totally a case by case situation regardless if you are changing bindings or not.
You should not have to much difficulty if you go for something with a longer mount plate E.g. atomic/solamon STH 13s or 16s as they have a much longer base plate at the heal piece than the pivots and hopefully because of that you will be able to just mount right over top of the old holes.

Not sure if you bothered to read the responses to the thread... and besides that the toe-piece of the STH/FFG has a mounting pattern that is hugely incompatible with the FKS one, you have to move about 2cm to get into a spot that doesn't conflict with the old holes.

True. However if the FKS was the only mount on the skis, try getting some Rossi Axial or look PX bindings so you can re-use the toepiece holes or even the toepieces themselves. I rarely see the axial heels break. Even the plastic ones hold up better than FKS heelpieces.

The mounting pattern for Axial heels are much longer, and should clear the super small fks heelpiece pattern. Also the Axials have a ton of adjustability so it should be easy to find a place for them. Markers also have a longer pattern and good adjustability, but as stated you might have to remount the toepiece and go forward or back from center.
