Flycam hd-5000

It really depends on your setup, but I'd save up for a HD-2000.

an XR would be fine, might be a little harder to finely balance i think

I've never used the 5000, but I have used flycam's products

I use the fly cam nano. I love it. A glidecam is obviously a better tool, but if you aren't filming professionally it's a little hard to justify the cost

The nano is a little fragile compared to the glidecam, you do have to disassemble it to carry it from location to location, but it comes with an awesome carrying case that makes it pretty durable (you will have to carry an Allen key around for assembly)

It takes longer to balance than a glidecam, but after a while you get pretty good at it, takes me less than 2 mins to balance mine now (you will need to purchase a third party quick release plate, Manfrotto or something, the one it comes is plastic and shitty, and no quick release plate is absolutely awful don't try it)

All in all its a decent product for its price and produces similar results, it just takes a little longer to setup

I have it. Let me tell you right now unless you have enough shit on your camera to balance it go with the nano.


I shot most of my season on an unbalanced flycam because i just didnt have enough weight on top of it.

My current set up has just enough which is:
Canon t2i, 8mm fisheye/kit lens, a battery grip, and a rode video mic.


That being said, its not a bad product at all. I got mine for 125 and it was definitely overkill but over all im happy with it. It does what it needs to do and does it well.
Make sure you buy a quick release with it!!
