Replying to New University Comp
Sup
I'm guessing some of you guys/girls went to one of the BUISC comps this year. This was my first year at one (I went to the Midlands leg at MK) and it was pretty wack imo. It cost a fair bit and for that, you got 1 practice run to hit the features for the first time (maybe 2 if you were lucky) and then had 2 judged runs to throw down. It was waaaay to crowded (there must have been over 100 riders just waiting around at the top getting cold) and it looked to me that for some of the weaker competitors (not taking anything away from them, everybody looked like they threw down as hard as possible), the park was pretty overwhelming and they were just trying to get down in one piece. This seems to me like a scene which has bags of potential (there are clearly some talented riders/skiers out there) but the way in which these things are run is pretty bad imo.
Anyway to get to the point, clearly BUCS aren't going to change this setup. They have little incentive to so fair enough to them. Me and my mate (who also thought the BUISC setup was a bit wack) were thinking about the feasibility of starting up a new non-BUCS affiliated uni indoor comp with a much better format and generally more competitor-friendly. Obviously we haven't even started on logistics or anything but I thought I'd just holla at NS to see if anybody else feels the same way and would be down to try and work this out.
Oh and if you comment as being interested, could you just say which uni you're at pls
Thanks
