Pulled a Khai, It Didn't Work as Planned...

So I pulled a Khai Krepela at R2R this weekend. No pass that day, entered a contest (ok it was an easter egg hunt for a free pass), I won. I redeemed the good ol' golden egg and got my free seasons pass for next year in return.

Fast forward a couple days and the mountain is calling me. I haven't answered the phone but I have very good reason to believe (based on the tone of the message left on my phone and some text messages I received) that they want me to come in to the office.

My guess is that either A) I have to pay for a day pass that day but i keep the pass, B) I give the pass back and pay for the day pass that day, C) I get yelled at, pay for a day pass, and try not to get my pass taken away from me, or D) Try to pass it off as I wasn't skiing that day and was hiking on hill to find it. After all I was wearing jeans and regular shoes when I went in to redeem it. I have failed Khai and the rest of the pro poachers. I'm a disappointment to the industry.

So NS, what should I do? Anyone been in a similar situation? If so, what happened? Can they make me pay for a pass if they have no evidence that I actually went skiing that day? Could I pass off the fact that I "just hiked around for it"?

if the resort is really uptight, being on snow without a pass is technically using their resort without a pass. Also look into the rules for the easter egg hunt (if there were any) and see if a snow pass was required to participate. I wish you the best of luck

You could say you bought a day pass in the parking lot from someone leaving the mountain, went up, found the pass for the egg hunt and it was just your lucky day. I feel like that would be hard to prove or disprove. But maybe buying a day ticket in the parking lot is "illegal" too.

My guess is they looked at the release forms for that day and didn't see my name there. So they checked season pass records and im not there either.

but if you paid cash for a pass your name wouldn't appear anywhere in their system

They have you sign/fill out release forms for any type of pass. I could've paid in coins and my name would be there still

Speaking from personal experience in trivial matters such as this, you should just tell them you bought a day pass. If they say that you aren't in their records, tell them "Well, I don't know anything about that. How else could I have skiied that day without a day pass? You guys promised to give away a season pass, and now you're trying to weasel your way out of it? Doesn't seem fair." You get the idea.

Although, IF they come out right from the gate offering you option A I would definitely take that deal. Probably not gonna happen though.

say you bought a day pass with cash and if they say that youre not in their records just say you have absolutely no idea how that could happen. keep denying it. they have no proof and as long as you do this youre sweet.

Forge a fake credit statement and use that as evidence against them. This will further your case in shifting blame onto one of their employees for not having you in the records.

Did you ever think about all the kids there with parents who have to spend extra money just so their kids can ski? How awesome would it have been if one of them picked up that egg and got to ski no matter what next year for free?

I get it, you're broke too, but I bet you have more access to skiing than the majority of people running around looking for eggs. It's even worse when you didn't pay at all to play the "game" in the first place.

I'm not going to tell you what to do. On a long enough timeline, everyone takes an unannounced free chair ride.

On the other hand, nobody walks straight into the champagne room at a strip club for free without feeling the firm grip of a very large biker dude first.

In my opinion, just come clean.

Go in there, chin held high and fully admit what you did with full willingness to accept whatever consequences they wish to put on you. Be humble, and admit your mistake.

That works way more than you'd think.

That, or join a witness protection program.

the gm who is friends with my manager at the ski shop i work at, and i know him, was scanning and just goes "ohh, matt we've been looking for you. You're going to have to give me your pass."
i just said "yea, I know" and gave him the pass and left lol

I read all the comments to this and you didn't even put up a fight? Good thing to do...But would have loved to hear a well thought out story of how you somehow escaped or something and still got to keep the pass or something.

Ski resorts are fucking cocksuckers about money. I love how they knee-jerk revoked the pass since you didn't pay for one day. They could have just offered to let you pay for that one day
