As most everyone that customizes their cars/trucks knows what plastidip is, I'm looking for people with experience with it. I have plastidipped my trucks taillights already and tires will be done later this summer but does anyone know the ballpark price of how much it would cost me to have someone fully plastidip my truck for me? I know I could do it and have everything I need such as the compressor, the gun and hoses and 5 gallons of paint for just under 500. Just exploring my options.
depends on colour and who is doing the job. I had my car dipped for just under 250 because I know a couple guys who do this as their side job, but coats were thin and peeling it was a bitch. Just dipped it for the winter to protect paint so I was happy with it
Average cost for a truck you'll probably get from a shop should be around 700-800 all in. It's worth it to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing
If they need to mix pearls or whatever the price goes up, but flat colours go on easy
*TACO-DOG*lol you plastidipped your tail lights? are you sure you weren't looking for this stuff?
I don't like the glossy look of night shades so I used plastidip. A lot of people do it and doesn't affect the sight of it due to the transparency of plastidip. It is also completely legal and have had no problems.
what do you wanna know? I'm a professional vinyl wrap contractor and previously worked at a shop that was dipyourcar.com certified for dipping shit.
honestly plasti dip is an ok cheap alternative to vinyl wrap or paint, and never looks quite as good. find a vinyl wrapper who works at a shop and will wrap your truck on the side, you'll find somebody thats down for $1400 i bet. or try and wrap it yourself, it'd cost around $600 for material.
theres also a new product that is basically plastidip but without the shitty plastidip texture, its called something spray vinyl can't think of it right now. costs twice as much as plastidip but you can use half as much.

huh never thought it would work over lights.
but yeah if you want to dip your whole vehicle i would definitely look into someone who knows what they're doing. depending if you want it to last that is.
I'm not sure if my friend just did a shit job or what, but she plastidip'd her car and it looked like absolute ass. It peeled off in areas after a few months and it just did not look good. I'd only do it if you have 100% trust in the person doing it because it can end up pretty bad.

Costs too much to vinyl wrap and am also satisfied with the texture if you clear coat with the after spray wax-like material. I was also looking at using the DYC pro truck kit if I did it myself.

Yeah it seems weird but when you step on your brake, the light shines right though. Well I do know what I'm doing and have painted with a gun before its just im looking to see if anyone else has experience with it or pointers
SteezyJapaneezySorry for the dub post, but yeah its quite expensive. Id still rather save up my money and wrap it tbh.
Haven't really considered it since I'm not looking to spend that much and if I do it right or have it done right, it'll last close to the same time as vinyl.

not even close. Skittle could probably elaborate on this, but to my knowledge plastidips only last 3 years if done right. A good vinyl lasts about 7 years.

Depends how you put it on but I wouldn't do it for more than 2 years anyways
1.plasti dipping your taillights is retarded, when the light shines through you can see little dots and spray patterns.
2. Don't plastidip your truck, vinyl wrap or just repaint it.

I have some surface rust bubbles along the rear wheel wells of my truck, Is it possible to get vinyl wrap to cover the spots once it has been sanded/cleaned up instead of getting it painted? kind of like a 3M protector in a similar color to my truck?
It has held up surprisingly well, the hood is somewhat flexible and it has not cracked at all. It has taken a good beating (trees and multiple roll overs). It has peeled a bit in high traffic areas and has scratched where it's been hit by trees, but thats expected

vinyl accents imperfections in the body of a car, doesn't cover them up. That said, if you do a good enough job of sanding/filling, it shouldn't really matter what method you use to cover it up

Thanks for the info, I think I might use box liner around the edge, any experience with rust inhibitors? I want to keep rust from coming up underneath thanks,

Both my friends did that with their trucks a couple years ago. No rust since as far as i know

only ever used rust inhibitors after shaving / pulling my fenders and sawing through the strut towers, so never had a huge need. I just used basically a truck bed liner spray my buddy had lying around. Haven't had any rust come up after 2 years. Clear plasti-dip is also a pretty decent temporary option for keeping rust away

Did they use a rust inhibitor under the box liner? A friend of mine did his whole truck pretty much up to the windows, his paint was fine before, but he sanded it down for some reason and sprayed box liner on top and now it's rusted all over haha. Gotta put that shit on thick Im guessing
Guys, I'm not vinyl wrapping or repainting my truck, I don't have thousands of dollars to do it. I have at most 600. I'm not doing vinyl wrapping myself since I've never done it and I don't want it to done poorly. Plastidip doesn't have a rough texture if done properly and taken care of properly.
