Just curious what all of you like or are good at when it comes to academics.

So prospective, current, and past college students; what will/are/did you study in college??

I have my bachelors in biology and am working on a second bachelors in nursing

Bachelor's in mechanical engineering. Working on my masters in materials science and engineering.

That being said, powder is still the best major.

Currently in Biomedical Engineering/Sciences at the University at Buffalo.


But I am switching to do a double major in Business(marketing) and Psych next semester. Pretty stoked on it actually.

Not a bad idea.


I had too much influence by others on choosing my major initially. I got here and started getting experience in labs and other things and do not like it. Science/bio is awesome but the application of it in a career sense is not what I want to do. Business has a lot of things to build off of too. Business psych, marketing, financial analysis, accounting, to name a few. Which all interest me. So for me it's not a bad idea.

Same. Majoring in Business Admin, Minor in Communications. Didn't and still don't know what I want to do but atleast I won't graduate college with a worthless degree.

Good plan. I did the same. Not sure ended up doing finance/economics strictly because I had $40k of debt I didn't really want to deal with in the long term and I knew finance payed well. I always wanted to get into the food industry in a more business perspective not chef type of role.

Ended up doing investment banking for two years. Made a lot of money, school paid off and a lot invested away for my future. Now working at a Private Equity firm that does a lot of work within the food industry and I love it. Really itneresting mix of jobs. Plus I love my paycheck lol

What was that timeframe like from graduation to where you are now? I've always been interested in investment banking, just no clue where to start.

I really want to end up being a terrain park manager for a decent sized resort. Year round job, salary, allows creativity, and I still get to ski. But idk thats years down the road. I really need an internship, just dont have the time since I have to work when im not in school. Would love to pay of my 80k in soon to be debt before sallie mae really starts dicking me. Any advice?

I'm in a 15 month second degree BSN program so I know your pain. I think it'll be worth it in the end though, hang in there

To be more competitive, as well as being able to get another degree while working on the side and helping me with the MCAT. As of right now it's a minor, but I can always take an extra 2 or 3 semesters and get it.

Maybe it's different in the States, but here getting a specialization makes you more competitive in that field than a double major does in either of the two fields, so generally it's better looked upon for graduate studies since you'll ultimately only end up focusing in on one specific area.

I graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree from Avila University (a small catholic university) Double major in Business Administration and Marketing.
Other than the fact that I had no idea what I was going to do after graduation... My degree opened a lot of doors for me and allowed me the freedom to figure out what I wanted to do. Now I'm a manufacturer's rep in the commercial food service industry. Basically, I educate the end users on what products to buy to enhance their cooking experience as well as processes.

thats unfortunate, the world needs more women in science. especially engineering. plus chicks who are good at math are hot

In the states you can go into Medschool with any type of degree, but the main determining factors are GPA, MCAT (Medical School Admission Exam) Scores, and School you graduated from.

To do well on the MCAT you must study, a lot. So with a background of Biology, Chemistry, and other Medical-like classes in college will help you with the MCAT. That is why I'm taking them.

Went away from collage and got certifications instead. Wilderness first responder and NATEF certified. Have not gotten around to a ASE cert yet. Looking for my EMT B eventually so I can be upgraded from WFR to Wilderness EMT.

yeah that's the same as here. but makes sense then. Just pretty much everyone I know who's gone to med school or tried to go to med school all did specializations.

I go to St. Michael's College outside Burly, VT. I started off doing a 5 year program in Mech Eng. The program was through SMC and UVM. I was to take 1 class a semester at UVM.

Well I love Engineering and such, the workload was too much and the program was not ideal to be in. (Advisors did not know what classes I should take and other guidance/schedule issues)

Changed over to Computer Science and absolutely love it. I save a ton of money by not going an extra year and will come out with no debt thanks to a fat scholarship. Computer Science has been a lot more intriguing to me lately and I can't wait to learn more in depth topics.

Just graduated with an ME degree. That said I'd do a business and entrepreneurial if I had to do it agian but engineering is a good way of "thinking" and can be used in everything.
