It looks like you are using an ad blocker. That's okay. Who doesn't? But without advertising revenue, we can't keep making this site awesome. Click the link below for instructions on disabling adblock.

So, I tried to go to this link from My Threads (https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/807452/Marker-Kingpin-). Briefly loaded the thread, then sent me to this website, which made hella dialogs and I had to force quit Chrome to get out of it. Is that on my computer, or somehow on NS's end?
It might be on your end.. I have a similar thing going on on this computer where if I don't have adblock enabled on NS then it keeps wanting to redirect me to other sites or refreshing the page. I've done all sorts of scans and what not and can't find anything, but I'd assume more people would be complaining of it if it wasn't me. plus it's been going on for a long time (haven't checked if it's still happening recently though)

Literally the exact same thing happened to me. The NS homepage was the only tab I had open, and it lead to the exact same site with no escape beside force quit.
There's lots of things that do tracking, those are all the advertising systems, 3rd party data solutions and various RTB market tools we use. Its actually pretty nutty how much tracking is out there if you actually look at what is going on under the hood.
Troy.Possibly one of the advertisers put something sneaky in one of their ads?
Its not one of the direct advertisers, this has been tracked down to be seeming to come from the Google Ad Exchange. Its actually an internet wide problem, just particularly badly affecting us right now.
The biggest thing you guys could get for us is look for what ad displays right before this happens. That will give us a clue.
STAUSShappening to me too. it happens when i click an NS link from facebook.
This for me too. Happened like two days ago when I clicked on a link from NS on Facebook to watch a video. And just now happened again. It's one of those spam things that makes you not able to exit until you press okay on whatever the little pop up box says. Sorry, not good description. But will try to screenshot if it happens again.

Any chance you saw the ad that popped up right before it happened? Did the page start to load and then it pulled you away?

This is usually what happens, the page partially loads then it goes to the spam. I've been clicking on NS FB links for the past 10 minutes and it hasn't done anything. IT always happens when i'm not expecting it so i never see the ad
yeah I got a really bad one the other day, had to restart my computer (macfag). This plus the snus ads really sucks. I don't want to see a huge chew ad right on the splash page. Really? talk about tacky.

People are suspecting that there's a random ad within the google ad exchange that is causing this, its happening elsewhere on the internet too so everyone is trying to track it down.

This shit ain't free. Newschoolers has to keep the lights on to make really, really awesome projects, and to keep this site running. General Snus is currently doing that. If you don't want to see General, then buy out their ad space.
Mr.BishopYeah the biggest thing we need is for someone to try and take a glimpse of the ad that runs (if any) right before it happens.
The problem is, you never see the NS page, it just goes straight to the redirected site, so finding out which ad does it is pretty much impossible (and I'm guessing that's why this is taking so long to track down across the web as well).
I didn't get any screenies of the actual website (due to me not disabling my antivirus), but I did find that it directs you through a couple of website before the final one.
Website details (above) sites in the redirect (below)
I used google's search query (because it works better than the default ns one) and I clicked on a newschoolers link and was taken to another site other than newschoolers. Add problem? Eh, maybe, but probably not. Check proxies. That's all I've got. I've dealt with infections, but nothing quite like this.

Alright just had it happen again! This time it really didn't want to go away either. Just typed in newschoolers, it was doing the loading thing in the website bar thing then went straight to this.
Had to click on the okay thing a few times and try to exit out fast enough before it popped up again. Anyone actually have a virus on their computer now? Really don't know much about viruses and want to make sure I don't have one. Any safe ways to check, I'm on a macbook?

Yeah I figured it wasn't good..but didn't know what else to do. I quite Safari like 4 times, restarted my computer and turned it off..and then back on again and it still kept coming back. Is there something else I can do to get it to go away for real without clicking on it?

Are you force quitting? Press command-option-esc and a menu will come up to quit unresponsive programs.
it hasnt happened to me yet since the first time so i dont know what to tell ya.
LightSydeForreal. It's happening more and more. Clicked on Alerts and bam.
.frenchyI pressed the login button and came to this.... it's getting old now. I couldnt cancel out of it so I had to log out and log back in on my computer..
I hate to say it, but turn on adblock.
ever since I turned on adblock, I haven't been having this problem...
alternatively, changing your region may work too (i.e. making the computer believe you're accessing newschoolers in canada rather than the u.s.) seeing as I'd only have the problem when I have my unblocker set to the u.s.
Yup just got one after clicking on a facebook link. If I go to my browser history, it looks like it directed through three websites:
Broadinf.com,
gomoes.org (not directly to this, but to this long url http://gomoes.org/f/?
t=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5zeXN0ZW1hbGVydHoubmV0L21hYy1hbGVydC5odG1sP3RyYWZmaWNfc291cmNlPTI4NTg%3D),
and then to systemalertz.net
DONT CLICK ON THESE LINKS UNLESS YOU ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
