I was pretty clear, actually... there is no possible way that being 'fit' in any sense of the word could possibly have helped these people survive the effects of a massive wave destroying their cities. 'Survival of the fittest' was an incredibly stupid thing to say.

In defense of ant, maybe he wasnt talking about being 'physically fit' what about mentally competent? I mean there are people that could have warned the countries, they didnt have any early warning systems or anything like that. The animals got the fuck out, why didnt they?

And when you really think about it JD, I bet alot more women, children, and elderly men died rather than people that were in descent shape and could fend for themselves. In fact I think it was something like 1/3 of the people that died in India and some other islands were children that werent strong enough hold onto anything or get to higher ground. I could be wrong though.

The point was that even if you knew about the wave the very second it was formed, or as it was about to be formed, you would have a matter of a few hours to do anything about it. Good luck with that.

So Steezy... what could those old people and children have done to be more prepared for the event? Bulked up a bit? The idea of 'Survival of the fittest' is that people who are equipped (physically or otherwise) to compete in life will fare better than those who aren't and will have better lives... but there is no realistic way in which one could 'equip' oneself to survive something like this. Even running practice! I liked the 'They should have run faster' thing from Ant... my God, it's always amusing when I get a chance to find out that people quite so stupid actually exist.

No doubt ANY warning would have saved some lives, but aid would nonetheless be required... possibly, although it sounds cruel, more so. With more refugees, more aid is needed, obviously... warning will always help some people, but ultimately, the actual damage that was done was not preventable.

Yea i deffinatley argree with you about the aid, lifes would have been saved but left homeless and without food and such. Alot mroe aid would have been required. But in your first post you said yourself, 'what could the elderly and young do'Not much right? But the people that could haul ass and get away or up a tree or soemthing like that survived.This is proving the point I have, that in this case the fittest did in fact survive.

having not bothered to read the last 20 posts or so, I will offer my guide to becoming a typical conservative american.

1. Become a Christian.
2. Dig a large hole.
3. Only watch Fox News.
4. Live in large hole, cut off from the entire world outside of America.
5. Make sure to label anyone and everyone who sees something wrong in America as a 'stupid hippie liberal' or a 'terrorist'. Better yet, call them all terrorists.
6. Support Bush in every decision he makes. Who cares if his programs designed to help the country not only suck, but fail, he's the President, and as Americans, we HAVE to support him. (see 'no child left behind' for failed, and 'clean air' act for sucky, not to mention his 'abstanence only' sex education programs, and ability to ignore the most basic scientific principles when making decisions, cause hell, the bible HAS to be right).

On the subject of being 'cut off' from global affairs: I dunno... seems to me that world figures don't matter a hell of a lot to you guys. Can you name the most recent Nobel Peace Prize winner, and some of his/her accomplishments? I mean, given that there was so much discussion on here about Bush being nominated, did anyone pay attention to who ACTUALLY won? Or just stop paying attention, given that the winner wasn't American?

I agree with some of the guide to be honest. Apart from teh Moore joke. As much as I enjoy his movies, I don't take a lot away from them. I know damn well he bends the truth and does a very sneaky job of getting hsi points across.

However, I don't go looking for things to bitch about in this country. Just so happens that there are a lot of things I don't like. One big one being George Bush.

I do attribute a lot of problems to him, btu not all the ones in the world. Unlike www.godhatesamerica.com (conservatives) I don't think that god created the tsunamis. I don't think bush did either. I think plates shifted causing them. However, a lot of things I have problesm with ARE because of him.

I live in thsi country, I love living in this country, and most likely won't move to europe for good 9although I do enjoy traveling there). Why wouldn't I complain about things that I see going on in this country that I don't agree with?

as for why we are obligated to doante money?

well, lets look at it from a very narrow minded perspective. I think it was 1,000 US citizens are dead because of it. So that makes me think we should help at least get their bodies and areas around their bodies cleaned up.

looking at it in a more open minded view, it's because we're all human beings. We populate this earth together, and it seems necesary to me that we help out others in times of need. This is one of them. I also think that we should be spending the billions thatwe are in the war to help africa and even our own inner cities. The war in afghanistan and the war on terror are OK in my mind, but fucking a, IRaq is NOT part of that. Iraq is bullshit. anyways, this isn't an iraq discussion, so moving on...
