Chick ski techs

I'm a 20 year old girl working as a ski tech at a shop in Vermont, and I find that people think that it's either super whack or pretty cool that there's a girl in the shop. Sometimes people will say that they're glad to see a girl in a shop working on skis, but a lot of times we get a bunch of dudes in here who just assume I'm a secretary and won't trust me at all about anything involving the work that their skis need.

Any ladies out there that get the same shit?

Guys, how do you feel about a chick working on your skis for you? Cause I definitely don't think that's a weird thing.

As the manager at my shop I would not hesitate to hire the "right" person no matter what gender. We do see a lot of guys that think they know more than everybody not just the ladies in the shop. We do have a gal in the summer as a bike tech and she does have to prove herself more to some of the older school guys. The fact is she is more than capable and is extremely knowledgeable. Most give her some shit until she puts them in their place. Stand up for your self (even though you shouldn't have to) and demand respect.

I worked with a girl that new so much more about bikes than I ever will. And she could build/rebuild/fix them like crazy. She was like a walking encyclopedia. She was awesome
Now we have another girl who acts like she knows everything, but doesn't.

I wouldn't have a problem with a girl working on my skis or fixing or whatever. As long as you know what you are doing I am ok with it. Some people are just douches. Ignore them.

I worked as a ski tech in a couple shops in CA. Occasionally you get the people who won't take you seriously but as long as you got the skills to back it up it's pretty easy to them in their place. More often than not people thought it was cool to see a chick behind the counter.

i dont really give a shit. if you know what you're doing, and my stuff gets back to me how it should, i could care less who did the work. it is good to see more chicks in a mostly male dominated industry, but i'm a huge fan of the "whoever is the most qualified" mentality
