Is there an actual reason for short park poles?

I mean I hear that they "get in they way" but do they? from what? Unless your throwing doubles or triples the length probably does'nt matter to much

They look stupid While riding park, and I think are easier to push with short distances cause you can put theM right in your Palm. But I do think long poles get in the way. Short poles separate park skiier from Jerrys.

I had a bad habit a few years ago where I'd sometimes cross my skis then accidentally put my pole between them so they lock like that in mid air so I use shorter ones to avoid that.

Poles DO get in the way. And when you fall on them it hurts, and they break or bend. Plus it's one less thing to carry and worry about.

my poles are really short and i still think they get in the way, like when i land they sometimes get stuck in the ground not only that but i think longs poles dont look as cool. with long poles you probably have a higher chance of take a grip to the face.

Long poles get in the way allot especially if you are not really used to using them in the park. When I have to use my long poles for a lap or two in the park I usually hold longer down on them when hitting rails and jumps to avoid them from getting in the way, looks stupid as fuck but I feel allot safer doing that then to hold them normal and risk getting them caught in the snow when landing.

I have short poles and i tried going to a normal sized pole and i just cant do it. The reason i started using short poles is because my baskets kept getting caught on my skis when doing sweet rail slides.

For me slightly shorter poles feel more comfortable in my hand, I ski in the east, and I actually prefer shorter poles for around the mountain (105cm poles, Im 6'). I ski with a lower center of gravity especially through bumps, and it makes it much easier to maneuver the poles quickly and plant. May not be technically right but thats what I perfer

short poles make a difference. poles shorter than the distance from your hand at its side to the ground won't catch on the snow, unlike longer poles. nobody wants a surprise colonoscopy. and some people like the extra balance that poles offer without the occasional butt fuckin.

personally, i'm a no poles guy in the park

They break easily because there's more for you to fall on if they're long. They look nerdy and weird. They get in the way. Plus like everyone's already said, it can anally impale you.

dont get it in the way as much, cant impale my self, harder to land on and bend

why no baskets on poles in the parks? see alot of people without baskets and not sure why

short poles came from mogul skiing. It's so you can get more forward pressure and lower in the bumps while not hitting yourself in the face whenever you pole plant.

I find using shorter poles make it so I have to get into a more forward stance. It's easy to get lazy and backseat with longer ones. Plus all the reasons mentioned in this thread already

When I used to have longer poles there was a couple of times I would be coming off a rail and the basket would get caught under my ski and I would eat shit because of it. Shorter poles means that doesn't really happen.

My friend always runs over his own poles when sliding rails. I have no idea how he does it, but his ski bases are messed up because of it. Of course he has long poles but still.

Touche on the spelling however if the poles are so short that they don't touch the ground with our hands at their sides whats the point? They don't do shit when their that short, and I get the problem with long poles, so just go without!

Most importantly, short poles look better, long poles look silly.

Also longer poles really seem to get in the way in the park. After using small poles everywhere you get used to them and they are still very functional at getting around

well if they barely touch the ground when you're standing normally, they work fine when you take an aggressive stance and lean into your boots. it's not like you need to pole plant in the park. getting speed in the park isn't normally a problem for anyone. and you can manage in lift lines

Lets agree to disagree, I just think its one of those things where its all about being cool, no benefit, I mean if you need speed just skate and its far more effective.

I don't ride the short stubby fuggers but I don't ride long either. They are about 2 inches above waist line while standing.

I don't throw dubs and stuff so maybe why, I got a black eye in 7th grade from a pole and bent one on my ass skiing switch when I was first learning park. You could just give up and get short poles, or live and learn. Proper sized poles have not gotten in my way for 8+ years or so...
I'm sure everyone who uses them does for different reasons, some for looks, some for function. You can keep em, I'll stick with my long poles. Good luck in the pow with short sticks...
