Just because you don't realize it doesn't mean you haven't seen it... people use zoom to change perspective

there's a lot of techniques that include zooms. I'm almost positive that if people didn't use zoom while filming, there wouldn't be any feature films that use zooms for shots.

One example is a dolly zoom where you zoom in while moving the camera back to keep the subject still yet change perspective.

smooth zooms are fine imo, some are so smooth and subtle that you don't even realize that they're there (which i am 100% positive you've seen good zoom examples if you've seen any movies in the past 20 years and just didn't notice)

I think the main problem with the zooms in question is that it looks shaky, and it doesn't add to the video at all.

It isnt a quality zoom. it is pure shit.

Fair enough, I hadn't thought of it from the point that if they are done right you don't notice

i cant give you a specific video, but ive seen Hitchcock zooms (sometimes called zollys) in videos here all the time, and when done right they look awesome

another time ive seen it is in pow edits where the filmer is at the bottom of the hill and zooming out to keep the rider in frame. that use of zoom is in almost every single ski movie this year

zooms are like any tool, when used incorrectly they look bad, but when used correctly they can add a lot to your videos
