I plan on messing around with Unreal Engine 4 and I'm going to be building a new computer around June. Thing's I'm trying to decide on to make things a bit more cost effective. I'm not sure I want to go with either the i5 or i7. I'm thinking quad-core might be the way to go, but there's also the hyper threading for the i5 which makes the dual core act like a quad core. I'm going to most likely need about 8gb ram.
For the video card I'm not 100% on, but they recommend these on the UE4 website: NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD series or higher.
Mother boards I haven't even looked at because I want to figure all the other stuff out before I even look at them. haha Then I will look at computer cases after I figure the rest out.
Doesn't need a disc drive right away, but sooner or later will probably end up getting a blueray drive or something.
Hard drive: I plan on getting a decent sized SSD and another HDD for massive storage. I'm kind of tempted to get a hybrid drive though just to start then I can always expand my storage.
So far I can only think that NCIX.com is where I'm going to go to pick up all the parts, but if anyone else knows where I might want to check out to get stuff for cheaper. I feel I should also clarify I'm not opposed to ordering from a bunch of different websites if it works out to be cheaper that way.
In total trying to definitely keep it under $1000.
I realize it might be close to impossible to build a really good computer for under $1000, but if I can get a bunch of stuff to start out with an ok computer(just enough to get things up and running) and even slowly upgrade it I'm fine with that.
I'm not getting this to just do game design either I plan on doing video edit's and stuff as well and I also like to have an OK gaming computer(I'm kind of hoping it's at least good enough to maybe run oculus in the future).
TL;DR?
Looking for suggestions on building or buying a cheaper upgradeable desktop computer for running Unreal Engine 4 so I can play around with it and maybe make some fun games. Trying to keep it under $1k(to start off with). I also do a bit of work with photoshop and plan on doing a little bit of video editing. Also I wouldn't be opposed to it being able to run oculus in the near future.
any suggestions?
Things I have forgotten to add. I would like it to be able to run 2-4 monitors at once when I'm done.
Also I live in BC Canada so if anyone know's of a cheap website in Canada I would prefer that so shipping doesn't kick my wallets ass.
