john18061806Pros are people too, but I feel that it's the fault of PBP for letting well known skiers into a contest called "undiscovered". Haven't read into the guidelines behind the contest but it seems very contrary to the name. They are looking for people to film with, a good amount of these people will be somewhat well known.
TJenkins8Absolutely! Not blaming the pros at all. Just feel that PBP should have either not named it "undiscovered" or changed the criteria for participants.
artrud23Understand that your chances of winning are

pussyfooterBut, you're entire argument is invalid because pbp disclosed this contest was open to anyone.
TJenkins8My argument essentially is that it is a terrible name for the contest. PERIOD! I don't think you or anyone else can dispute that.
artrud23maybe you guys should just worry about your own entry and be grateful that another production company is providing a great opportunity like this? Understand that your chances of winning are probably reduced when "pro skiers" submit entries, but come on. This is the first year they are running this contest and they likely left it as open as possible to get as many ppl stoked on it. Maybe they will adjust in yrs to come, but give them a break...this is an awesome opportunity and I'm excited to see how it turns out.
pussyfooterI mean, what would you call it?
And lets think about this critically... does it actually matter? No.
TJenkins8Buddy I'm going to school for marketing so it was just an opinion I had and wanted to see what others thought. Yes the name should absolutely matter to PBP. Here's a MKT 101 tip for you, the name of your event should reflect your goals & OBJECTIVES!
pussyfooterHaha dude you're a fucking kook, i don't care what you learned in your mid level marketing class last week. They aren't selling a product, its a contest you dweeb.
Anyways, we're talking about the ski industry and even a smaller niche the ski filming industry. It doesn't fucking matter.
TJenkins8Sorry for having an opinion. Your right the ski film industry is super niche, and contests like this are only going to further that. Think of all the athletes that Level 1 has discovered through their SuperUnkown contest. Poor Boyz is basically trying to mooch off this without even staying true to the format. They thought a catchy title like "Undiscovered" would give them the automatic credibility that L1 has established.
weedzski4Who gives a shit if both Level 1 and PBP have contests. As long as it gives more people an opportunity in our sport, I'm all for it.

Titsandwich11not a great example really, superunknown has had its fair share of people who are as well known to the people listed in OP. wasn't nick martini a finalist? that's an example that comes to mind

Mr.BishopI must agree with this, I mean Zak Mousseau is in it, and he has a decent sized name.
There's a big difference between being a superstar pro on salary all year and just someone who is extremely popular online / on their own.

integratedyet there are major sponsored athletes competeing in this (stepp, sander, giray
danbrownhopefully giray will give you a piece of his mind when he sees this
artrud23You're entitled to your opinion but dont be butt hurt when ppl disagree or dont think it's really worth calling out. I mean...it's Poor Boyz Productions, do you even know where their name came from? And this is how the ski industry operates and you really shouldnt be surprised. Everything is always slightly janky and I wouldnt change a thing.
HOTPOSSIEThey could have been a bit more creative and explicit in their naming of this contest....Or they could have had a clause like Level 1 that if you are collecting a paycheck from skiing you aren't unknown, at least to the greater industry.
Ahmets_BrotherBecause most of these names you see entered are like myself, dedicating every cent to skiing as much as possible and trying to make sick shit! Its a chance to get out of Limbo and get to ski something sick and show the world you can shred a big chilean line!!!
In the "modern age", its likely that anyone you want to see skiing in next years PBP movie from filming in chile this summer already produces some sort of media or has a sponsor of some sort. I could be wrong...
TJenkins8My argument essentially is that it is a terrible name for the contest. PERIOD! I don't think you or anyone else can dispute that.
swogerWell if that's your argument I don't think Newschoolers forums is the right place to be asking kids for other opinions on what they think it should be named
HolteKnow who did it right? TGR Co-Lab.
No mention of unknown, undiscovered, unsponsored, etc in the title. Smart move TGR.
eheathI mean, what would you call it?
UglyboyLike I've said before. It's disappointing to see pros enter this contest. It goes against the entire point of having a competition to discover skiers that may not be as prominent as others.
I'd hate to see a skier whose already pretty well known to win over a lesser known skier
Mkvackayso when can we confirm who won? nothing from ns/sbc/poor boyz except for that vid, which mysteriously disappeared
GO IAN!
